75% of 2010 Equinoxs sold are 4cyl.
I helped that %. Bought end of last month with the Feb. 1 incentives, should be here any day now, black/black cloth LT1 4-cyl. Trading in my wife's '03 Tahoe LT. Very nicely done little SUV. Good standard features included, even in the base LS ... cloth even has power lumbar. Good size for a family of four too.
Other than her Tahoe, my wife has shown absolutely NO interest in GM vehicles that weren't V8 sports cars. After test driving one, she is really looking forward to ours coming in.
They seem to be flying off the lots around here. It was hard to find one to buy.

These kinds of "numbers" irriatate me.
OK, 75% of Equinox's sold are 4 cylinders.
So, are a ton of 6 cylinders rotting on the lots unsold, or are they simply BUILDING roughly 75% of 4 cylinder models, and therefore the sales numbers are following suit?
I seriously doubt many people ORDER a vehicle like an Equinox... so if they want one, they will almost certainly take something from dealer stock, or get a dealer trade. Either way the vehicle is already built.
If anything, there may be people NOT buying Equinox's because they can't find a 6 cylinder model??
It's be interesting to see the 'Days sales in stock" or whatever that stat is called, for 6 cylinder Equinox's.

edit: don't dealers order what they want on their lots? Don't hey tell the factory whats selling and what to make more of?
Darth makes an excellent point. I've been interested in the Equinox for a little while now (newborn daughter and wife has a near 100k mile Saturn) and almost every one I have found through internet searches of dealer inventory have been 4 cylinders. This is fine with me since we'd probably buy the 4 anyway. My friend bought a V6 a few months ago but I believe he ordered it.
Dealers can order somewhat what they want, especially if what they are ordering is above and beyond the standard allocations, but on volume lines, they have a considerable amount of stuff pushed on them by GM...
This is especially true for all-new vehicle launches.
People who work at dealerships can either confirm or deny this...
I am planning to buy one since the wife and I are planning to our first baby by mid next year. I am also waiting until all the kinks get ironed out, and the demand slowed down. Basically, I am hoping by the time I am ready to purchase one, I can get one with 0% interest for at least 5 years.
EDIT: Oh, I also am planning to get the 4cyl LTZ.

In my area the equinoxes are flying off the lots even faster than the camaros. Everytime Bradshaw Chevrolet gets an Equinox in, it's gone in less than 2 days. Most of the time, there isn't even one to look at. Same at the other 2 dealerships in the area. They do have one or two Terrains "in stock" at a time. (This dealership is the whole shebang, chevy, buick, caddy, gmc.)
Also got to test drive a manual LT RS Camaro while waiting for my wife to arrive at the dealership. Nice. Can't say enough good things about that car either. Can't believe the shifter is a factory shifter. Personally, I thought visibility was just fine, once your mirrors are set right.
Congrats jwade95Z
I just stopped at our areas largest dealer yesterday and they only had one Equinox in stock. 1LT AWD 4cyl. It is harder to get an Equinox than it is to get a Camaro.

That's the 09 and older style...
