Wow , I did not expect the new 2.4L to be that popular.

Really? I'm surprised the % wasn't higer.
Seriously, 22/32, or 17/25... unless you just HAVE to have the V6, it almost seems like a no brainer to me. It "used to be" that the 4cyl vs 6cyl fuel mileage gap was much closer, and 4cyl power sucked, neither seems to be the case anymore
If true, this is what you should have quoted

GM spokesperson claims that 50% of all Equinox sales are conquest sales.

From the linked article:
...and shock... you do know that the 2010 equinoxs look nothing like that, right? That's the 09 and older style...
Conquest sales mean that the buyers did not have any GM products in their household prior to purchasing a new Equinox. GM has not broken down trade-in information to determine which competing products are being exchanged for the new Equinox.

If its as good as the 2.4/a6 combo in the Malibu , I can see why people might choose it . For just a normal people hauler DD , I would have a hard time justifying a 3.6 over the 2.4 . The 2.4 is pretty refined and its not gutless with the a6 .

Keep in mind when they make all these "sales up 300%" claims..they car comparing them to lame duck models in the worst sales year in recent history.
Equinox is great..I wonder however if production is skewed to 4 cylinders artificially. GM really needs this SUV to help with CAFE. Then again..most cute utes are 4 cylinders.

All the small mainstream small suv's sell more 4's . GM is just very late to the game , finally realizing people dont care if u get a more powerful v6 standard for the same money as the other 4 cyl . suv's .
