5th Gen: Hatch or No Hatch??? That is the question....
5th Gen: Hatch or No Hatch??? That is the question....
I was just wanting to find out what a majority of Camaro owners would like the 5th gen to have the hatch or a regular ole trunk. I have always like the hatches better because it gives it a more sporty look.....it seems to have a slight decrease in trunk space, but I wouldn't recommend getting this car to buy groceries. The Non-Hatch would have more space but to me wouldn't look as good. But I'm just one vote....what do you think.........
As far as styling goes......I'm really torn.
From a performance standpoint, I'd rather have the trunk to get a more rigid body. Does anyone know if the chassis we're looking ahead too will offer enough rigidity to make a hatch more apealing?
From a daily usefulness standpoint, I love the hatch. I can't see a Camaro trunk being big enough to serve much purpose. If I put the rear seat down, I think I can haul as much or more in the back of the Z as I can in my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee. That's pretty handy when I want to swing by Lowe's after work and don't feel like running home to get the truck.
I'm for the hatch unless some really cool styling dictates a trunk.

This whole hatch or no hatch poll is a moot subject. The hatchback is gone.
Even if there was still any question about this, it's waaaaay too late to even bother discussing it now if the car's only 24-36 months away.
(assuming, of course, that there is a 5th gen in the works
)

I'd rather have the hatch, but it really isn't that much of an issue to me. It'd be cool as an option though.
Camaros have the most useless hatch ever. Sure it maybe better thena 2nd gen for storage but its still not great. The hatch glass comes so low to the floor--not much can fir there and the "well: fills up fast. Give me a trunk with fold down rear seats.
But I really don't care too much either way---as long as it looks great.

I'd much prefer a hatch for the versatility (makes hauling big stuff so much easier). I'd really miss it, but it wouldn't stop me from buying one (it didn't stop me from bying a FROD).
I still don't know why the US tends to shun hatchback cars... especially since nearly every SUV or minivan is a "hatchback."

I will really, really, really miss the hatch. It made the trunk so much more useful, and made the car overall more practical for daily use.
Sure, it squeaks more than a rusty chain, but it looks good too

I wish GM would keep the hatch. It was so nice to fit my hockey bag, goalie pads and sticks back there plus another bag if I was driving someone home. The usefullness of the hatch made it invaluable. A trunk would be only good for putting subs in the back and not much else.
