5th gen and future vehicles thread...FINAL (you may want to read this)
First thing's first:
This is called 5th gen & Future Vehicles community. The purpose of this is to share information that we pick up here & there on future cars. If a couple people of here don't understand that concept, and that's O.K. It's not going to stop the exchange of information, here or anywhere else (within reason).
Post "ONLY"authorized information or only from sources willing to give their name?? Yea right!

That said, there are sometimes situations where you have to do some digging when there's unusual reactions to information that previously was accepted without a blink, and I did. I can't explain things in detail, but Jason under the circumstances he was under did the right thing.
No, GM didn't threaten to lock him up, & no black Suburbans showed up at his house. But I have to say that piece of info (the info itself, not our link to it) did have some repercussions at GM. Not something that's going to create the next plague, but still enough to have meetings over.
Without going into details, there is still a delicate situation I thought would be resolved by now, but evidently is still in play. All I can say is you'll almost certainly have the car you may want regardless, but one element of that car is in the balence. Please keep your guesses to yourself (meaning don't post them).
Next area, being civil. I'm not going to make this long (someone else will probally post a thread here on this very soon), but some of the things going on here are driving some people away or making them post less.
Finally, and this will be a little longer, there's a difference between being critical and outright bashing. I know that because this site has rabid and occasionally unreasonable Camaro enthusiasts, there's a tendancy to equate GM management with something of a cross between Saddam Hussein, The 3 Stooges, and something worse because they pulled the plug on the Camaro before replacing it.
I've said it a hundred times, they had no choice. It's a minor miracle it lasted as long as it did.....really. The reason it wasn't directly replaced was primarily because there wasn't an chassis for it. GM was going all FWD (save Cadillac & Corvette) in the late 90s, Sigma was on the expensive side, the Y chassis was on the expensive side, the V chassis was due to be replaced, the F-body had nowhere to go. The management which all this was initated under has been all but completely replaced since around 2002.
But the terrible thing about GM is that by the time managements' actions take effect, they've either moved to other positions or retired. GM is just now coming out of the influence of decisions made in 1999-2000. It's going to be a year or 2 before things decided since 2002 under the new guys take full effect. They have a great management team in place now, and GM knows what needs to be done (trust me, GM KNOWS it needs something to compete with Mustang).
But, GM has other vehicles that need attention 1st. Impala and Monte Carlo haven't been touched since 1997. Corvette since '98. Cavalier was going on 20 years old. The PT Cruiser didn't turn out to be a flash in the pan (despite the opinion of some here), and Chevy needs to get a part of this market (jack's up the CAFE figures for GM's trucks). Ditto the crossover vehicle. This doesn't mean GM isn't working on a Camaro replacement, it's that they have their plate full getting other high priority vehicles out right now.
Don't get me wrong, I still think GM's number 1 problem is they have way too much bureaucracy, and the people who I would think should have some sort of control over how things play out seem to be held in check by other (I would think, lower) layers or parts of GM. But I've never said that GM was a %$#@*& for killing Camaro and I'll never buy a GM product again.
That type of attitude makes some GM people not want to come here again.
So, lets see how things play out. You have no reason to worry about things in the future. If you MUST have a Camaro right now, go lease a Mustang for a couple of years.
Why?
1. Mustang IS the closest thing to a Camaro you're going to find.
2. Mustang is about as quick as an stock LS1 Camaro (don't always believe brags, boasts, & put downs).
3. The extra sales of the Mustang will make GM even more eagar to get a piece of the action.
4. You'll appriciate the Camaro replacement more.
5. When you come off your leases, the volume of used Mustang will give some of us a chance to get a sweet deal on one used.

Re: 5th gen and future vehicles thread...FINAL (you may want to read this)
I did not mean to upset or step on any toes, I was reading previous posts and could not find any real information.
Would like a GTO but they don't sell them in Canada, something about lights to low for Canadian law (B S).

A GTO? And pay $10k more than you should? Dude a MUSTANG GT is under $25k. Yea, go buy a GTO and play into GM's bean counters antics. The more GTO's they sell at $35k the more reason there is for the bean counters to "unite" and charge $40k for a Camaro.
Get real.
Get real.

I don't know about you guys but I think this forum needs a big blue chill pill. I have seen people go off the deep end about stuff we don't, for the most part, know about. I am just going to continue what I have been doing the majority of my time here, Sit back and take it all in.

As one of those Camaro enthusiasts, I'd like to point out that:
1. The Impala and Monte Carlo aren't going to be replaced anytime soon. I don't see where it takes huge funding for a facelift and a half-baked V8 transplant.
2. The Corvette C5 didn't need "fixing," and if it did ,it sure wasn't a job for the stylist who came up with the Aztek. The C6 is visually dubious, which makes it money down the drain in my book. My thanks to GM for making an ugly Corvette, something I thought was impossible pre-Lutz.
3. The Cavalier shouldn't have been replaced at all. It seems the Cavalier lost something like $2k/unit and you have to wonder if the Cobalt will turn a profit if the incentive game really gets going. Compared to rebadging a few Daewoos, the Cobalt is a pointlessly large investment.
If GM is willing to bet on the Cobalt, which is likely to yield minimal profits at best, why haven't we seen a F-body replacement? I have a hard time believing the poor selling F4 ever lost GM as much money as the Cavalier did over a long lifespan and a huge volume of units.

Re: 5th gen and future vehicles thread...FINAL (you may want to read this)
my idea of protesting "not having a Camaro yet" isn't spending 25k on a mustang
but my thought has gone like this over the past year.
2003
*we won't get a Camaro
*we might get something similar to a Camaro
*it might not be called camaro
*it won't be right, it'll be too retro
*ok, it'll have retro cues, i guess thats ok
*it will be built on an inferior platform
*its gonna cost alot for a z/28 maybe over 30k
*it wont get a big enough engine
*it will be too heavy
*GM's putting a badge to rake in $ not to please me
*ok, the engine won't be big, but it will be up to the task
*uh...the future cobra actually might have a future
*its gonna cost alot for a z/28 maybe just under 40k
2004
and periodically insert Red telling us to have faith (which only kept me excitting for a week)
(minus info from PM's)
i would have never thought the internet could be so frantic.

that car went from being respected, to sensitive to mods, to very respectable to the point of owning.
(i don't own one but it would be nice)
Re: 5th gen and future vehicles thread...FINAL (you may want to read this)
I agree with guion regarding the negative spin of this entire forum, and that some feel they don't want to post anymore. I have yet to hit 1,000 posts but am here every day, and have been for nearly 4 years. I read a lot, and I have to say...when all people do is whine, what's the reason to post?
Something is coming, the Martian said we'll love it, who knows what it will be called, GM management is doing the best it can to push it out, the cars we have currently are NOT the result of current management, things will be awesome in about 2-3 years, and until then, go drive your Camaro and revel in how cool it is. You own an instantly recognizable American icon. Every time I walk out into my garage, I get a smile just looking at mine.
Not happy? Guion has the solution...go buy a Mustang. Numbers will force GM's hand. Make Mustang a runaway success. I have even considered buying a V6 for my girlfriend as a daily driver. Me though? I'm holding out...I know something good is coming...I can feel it.
I too have been guilty before of complaining that GM finally makes cars I really like (Equinox, Cobalt, G6, upcoming V8 W-cars) as daily drivers, but have no major passion for. GTO is simply too expensive for me, but it is a NICE car, and is worth far more credit than naysayers give it here. Even C&D gives it a lot of credit, and it finished ONE POINT behind that god-send Mustang in this month's test.
If a new Camaro never comes, I will always have mine and go buy a 3rd gen. But something good is coming, something great...I trust guion, and I think a lot of you should, too.

very well put,I love Z28's,but the sitting on the floor stuff got old.Mustang fit my needs better as im sure it did most people judging by sales #'s.When the next Camaro comes out, it will have to be more mustang-like and that will be for the better.Better sales will equal longevity for the car and you still get that sweet LS1 or LS2 motor.
