5 or 6 speed auto coming?
For GMs small cars? Honda and Mazda both have these and I think other Asian car makers will follow. Question is, when will GM?
These 4cly cars can really benefit from another gear or two.

Oh shut-up, hater!!!

Yeah, I agree that they could use a 5-speed auto at least. I don't know if a 6-speed would really be necessary though??
(wouldn't it almost make for too much transmission to run for a small engine??
I mean, from a drivetrain / parasitic loss standpoint?
).

well the new civic runs a 5sd and it gets better miliage than the 5sd stick and they have no torque. but with GM's torquer engines a 6sd with a killer first gear wouldn't be a problem.
SMALL cars guys....not mid-sized. I'll be specific, delta and Aveo platforms.
The thinking is, closer spaced gears, deeper 1st gear= better performance---something a 4cly automatic could really benefit from. perhaps better mileage too---lower crusing rpm.

The Ion sedan debuted w/ a 5 gear auto and it did NOT go over well. Mainly criticized for worse mileage and inability to choose a gear.
