300C gets a turbodiesel.

As reported in the April Hot Rod...

3.0L, all aluminum, 217 hp, 376 ft/lbs at 1,600 rpm, nearly 30 mpg.

Unfortunately, it's for Europe only. It won't pass emissions on our filthy high sulfur diesel.

When the Hell does the low sulfur fuel show up in pumps? And how much will it cost?

I think low sulfur is rolling out in '07, not much more than current prices, so "they" say.

Is this motor the similar design to the existing E-class piece? The E-Class CDI is cool- 0-60 < 7 seconds, 37mpg highway in a 4000lb car.

How about BioDiesel?

Re: 300C gets a turbodiesel.

The new diesel fuel coming out will be a low-sulfur blend with a bit of biodiesel (soy-based) in it, IIRC.

Basically, there will be no excuse for not having good diesel options here in the US, and yet, we still won't have any.

P.S. Actually I lie. The holdup is getting a particulate filter that can last as long as the EPA demands that emissions devices last, so I've read.

Re: 300C gets a turbodiesel.

Ultra low sulfur diesel is starting to become available now. It will be required by 2007 model year diesels. It does NOT contain biodiesel.

The DPF (diesel particulate filter), I believe, is required to be waranteed to 150k miles by California. This is the reason for the ULS fuel and new oil formulations.

Also, if there is a diesel powered 300, it wouldn't be a 300C. I believe that is reserved for the V8 model only.

Pretty cool choice of engines. Too bad it won't make its way to the States.

Some places will have biodiesel blends mandated-

With so much torque, i would not be surprised if its acceleration levels approached that of 300C.. Definitely a 14-sec quarter mile.
