3,400 White Collar GM Job Cuts Coming...

Got news that the previously announced 3,400 job cuts now have an unfortunate date it seems. While the 3,400 job cuts were announced there never was a date associated with when the lay-offs would happen.

Unfortunately, it appears as if Monday, April 20th will be "Black Monday" for these white collar employees.

I've been told that GM is taking unusual measures to block off conference rooms on every level of the GM RenCen and have just learned there are to be no vacations the week of 4/20 at the Warren Tech Center.

Why would they be blocking off conference rooms and stopping vacations?

Block off conference rooms to inform those that are affected they are losing their jobs.
Stop vacations so that all employees are present.

Unless......it's something more. As the world turns......

Sucks, but I doubt GM has any choice.

I have been told of a similar "blocking of conference rooms" at the Milford Proving Grounds around the same time as well.

Sounds like somthing big is about to happen.

Are people gonna hide in the conference rooms so they can't get fired? Some kinda Costanza move?
Or do they not want a lot of people congregating in one particular area in case of a shooter?

That is what I was thinking. I was also wondering if people who anticipated layoffs just took vacations during the week of said layoffs...would they just be delaying their layoff or would the company actually lay somebody else off instead?

Maybe they want to take a nap under their desks?

My guess is they get the manager of the person who will be let go, HR people, and security and they break the news to the effected individuals in the conference rooms (one at a time). Apparently they don't go from cube to cube/office to office and just say "pack up you're stuff, you're outta here"

This is often true.

However, as easy as it is to expect the worst...and I do mean easy these days...I am going wait and see for sure.

I saw it (the first black-Tuesday long-ago). The lady they cut fainted. Quite a seen. I was walkin out the Pontiac Center Bldg when the ambulence pulled up. I think gm is far more careful now (I hear cuts now based on years of service). The mgt. was shakin in their boots over law-suit with that approach.

I know Ford did/ does the security walkup to the cube, and, walk-out with security guard. I also worked @ a Co. that did the walk-up and escort out method far before Ford. I got out of there.

You never know if your safe. Best to have a Bk_Up employment plan. Gm was pizzed ehrn I walked out on my own, and, someone that actually did real launch work was gone. Oh well, works both wayz don't it! Your only as secure as what your skills are and their needs are. Loyalty does not exist today.

Except, I lov my 97ss Camaro. It's a road monster. I cannot bring myself to buy foreign brand.
