3.2L DOHC HF V6 w/ Direct injection = 256HP
3.2L DOHC HF V6 w/ Direct injection = 256HP
According to the new Car & Driver, Alfa Romaro will be using a GM 3.2L High Feature V6 with Direct injection and it will be making 256HP
I can't wait to see the new CTS with the 3.6L version of this same engine

the current larger 3.6L V6 is 255HP, with direct injection and other tweeks it will be putting out 300HP+ for 2007. I think that is pretty good.
Re: 3.2L DOHC HF V6 w/ Direct injection = 256HP
Kyle, I think his point is that this 3.2L version is making ~260 hp (what the current 3.6L makes). We are (or at least I am) hoping for something around/over 300 hp from the 3.6L version, hopefully without requiring crazy high revs/sacrificing low end torque.
Re: 3.2L DOHC HF V6 w/ Direct injection = 256HP
How many <= 3.2L engines out there today are making more than 256hp?
And if you do hp/L, you'd have a 280hp 3.5L engine. Or right about what all but the top 3.5s are doing.
I guess that's 'barely par' so long as you can acknowledge that all of the japaense 3.5L engines are also barely par. How many > 280 hp 3.5L are out there today, what, the top 350Z/G35 engine and ????

Re: 3.2L DOHC HF V6 w/ Direct injection = 256HP
Currently available:
350Z/G35 coupe 3.5 = 298 hp
TL 3.2 = 270hp
IS350 3.5 = 306hp (SAE revised down from 315)
RL 3.5 = 300hp
Avalon 3.5L = 280hp (engine will be found in next year's Camry as well)
That's what's available right now (except in the IS' case which will be another couple months).
Next up for most of the cars listed above (and the other vehicles that use those same motors) is a hybrid system option which should raise power by 10-15% as well as drop fuel milage to that of a 4-cyl.
That's what I meant about 'tomorrow'. Unless GM has more research into hybrid technology than they're letting on to right now?

From what the others are saying, it'll be a 3.6L, which sounds like it'll be on part with the Acura RL, IS350, and 350Z/G35
But FWIW, per liter, GM's 3.6L would have to be 304hp to match the TL per liter, 309hp to match the Acura RL per liter, 307 to match the 350Z/G35 per liter, and 315 to match the IS350 per liter (assuming the 3.6 will be measured using the new SAE standard).

The other engines you mention are not measured with the new SAE standard. Just pointing that out.

Re: 3.2L DOHC HF V6 w/ Direct injection = 256HP
Do those engines require premium fuel as a result of high CR? I know the VQ35 does. Will the new GM motor require it as well?

And I'd be very surprised if the 3.2 and 3.6 didn't require premium either. But maybe somebody can confirm that.

The 3.2L is a new V6 in the high value family, and the first that I know of that uses direct injection. Unfortunatly Car & Driver didn't have torque numbers and the Alfa Romero that it is going in isn't out yet, so not much more is known about the engine.

The 3.6L V6 in the LaCrosse CXS (the premium model) only makes 240 horsepower but only requires 87.
The 3.6L V6 in the CTS seems to be no different other than it uses a higher compression ratio, thus increasing the horsepower to 255 (15 more). But it requires premium per several sources I checked (excluding Cadillac.com where I could not find it mention anywhere).
