Good numbers. Now give the 3.6L in the CTS the same treatment. A CTS with 300 horses, sports package, and 6spd manual would be sweet. A cheaper alternative to the high-dollar V-series and more inline with the G35 sedan and IS350. The STS needs this motor as well.

Everyone in luxo land has a direct injection motor now , and seeing as how u get bagged on twice as bad in this segment for falling behind ....it'd be a pretty safe bet the revised 3.6 wont disspoint . Caddy got their foot in the door and got people to pay attention , and actually give them alot of credit . Now wouldnt be the time to fall behind in the technology dept.

The 3.6L V6 in the LaCrosse CXS (the premium model) only makes 240 horsepower but only requires 87.

THe Buick and Caddy 3.6L also have the same compression = http://media.gm.com/division/powertr...specs.html#ls6

From what the others are saying, it'll be a 3.6L, which sounds like it'll be on part with the Acura RL, IS350, and 350Z/G35
But FWIW, per liter, GM's 3.6L would have to be 304hp to match the TL per liter, 309hp to match the Acura RL per liter, 307 to match the 350Z/G35 per liter, and 315 to match the IS350 per liter (assuming the 3.6 will be measured using the new SAE standard).

By the way, I could care less about hp/liter. It is still as useless now as it ever was. All that matters is the bottom line for the major catagories (HP, TQ, weight, fuel economy, ect.). I would still like to find one good argument for why hp/liter means anything.

I think the fascination with HP/litre comes from a couple of different places. First, engineers are hardwired to always want to do the most with the least. The problem here is that they've defined the wrong "least". Instead of making the most power with the least displacement, they should be trying to make the most power with the least cost, and the least weight, and the least complexity, and the smallest packaging size. That's what ultimately affects the consumer. I suppose it's understandable though, because from a marketing perspective it's difficult to quantify those values; HP/litre resonates much better with consumers. To increase HP per litre obviously requires skill so the average consumer equates higher specific output numbers with it being a better product, nevermind the tradeoffs that had to be made elsewhere in the vehicle because the engine is too tall, or costs too much, or is too heavy, or requires more maintenance.
Another reason for the emphasis on HP/litre is that in many parts of the world cars are taxed based on their displacement. Thus to offer better performance to the consumers, automakers had to learn to wring more power out of each cc. Since similar engines are used all over the globe with only minor differences, here in North America we also get the products of those decisions.
