Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Not much to go on but that little tease has a hint of F-150 to me.

I wonder if the Silverado will get a new V6? Its going to be hard to beat the new Ram's 25 mpg highway rating with the 3.6 and 8-speed.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
People that have been to the Silverado/Sierra previews are reporting that a new 4.3 DI V6 based on the gen 5 is on the way.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Any other news been shared about these trucks? I should be getting close to ready to sell my 05 in a year or so.. Perfect timing, isn't it?

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
GM is starting out with the gen V V8 to go up against Ford's Ecoboost. They are shooting for similar power but I don't think they'll come close to the Ecoboost's 420tq. A twin turbo V6 is in development but no word yet if it will end up in the trucks. The 8 speed auto won't come until the second year.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
When I bought my ('09) Sierra it was at the time the best choice since Ford still had the 4.6/5.4 which I thought were a bit dated given the power/fuel economy. Now I feel the same way about the current offerings in the GM variants, if I had to replace my truck today, I am not sure I would buy another. I have heard rumors of a eco boost competitor from both GM and Toyota but what I would really like to see is a 1500 with a diesel again. Looking forward to seeing these new trucks, I plan to try and get 3 years or so more from my current Sierra then replace it with another truck or perhaps a Tahoe.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
You guys laugh, but based on the overall shape of the spy photos and this pic this could be the best looking silverado since the 99-02 trucks.

I bet they will be in the neighborhood if not higher. This preliminary release is already at 450/450, and I am doubting those are final Corvette numbers. Throw a truck oriented intake at it, and it shoul dbe doable.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I am intrigued by this new 4.3 V6. I wonder what kind power it will be capable of 300+ hp?

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
300+ hp should be a given. I'm more concerned about the torque. Hopefully this will also have 300+ ft-lb with good low end.

I should have mentioned that I was referring to the 5.3. Truck engines are usually tuned for low end torque so it will probably have high 300s hp and tq. The 6.2 will still also be available but it should also have more focus on torque so power should be lower than the LT1.
Ecoboost - 365/420 6.2 Ford - 411/434 (Raptor) 385/405 (Super Duty) The new GM 6.2 should be competitve with the Ecoboost/Ford 6.2. Remember that thee 450/450 is a preliminary number. I bet the Corvette comes in higher. The L92 DI test mule made 450 years ago. They have the potential to drop a 450/450 truck version on us. Heck the current truck 6.2 makes 403/417 and is already competitive with the Ford Ecoboost/6.2 |
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I'm expecting 350HP+ for the 5.3L V8.
What I'm real interested in is seeing what V6 comes with the new trucks. |

Me too. With the expected weight savings and comparable power to the current 5.3L, this could become the popular choice. Do people really need closer to 400hp?
I want to see if the Gen V V8 based V6 rumors are true, or if they use the DOHC 3.6L. |
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I suspect a 300+ hp V6 would end the need for the 4.8L base V8. My dad Silverado has the 4.8 and its an excellent engine. I don't understand why its not paired with the 6-speed though. If it had the 6-speed I am sure it would get a mpg or two better than the 5.3, seems a no brainer to me.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Found a couple artist renderings and based on the spy pics... I think these could be pretty close. IF this IS what the truck is going to look like... I may finally have a replacement for my '00 Z71. I love the sketches. Best looking GM truck since the 99-02's. Honestly, it looks like a nice Sierra refresh with a Chevy grill, which is kinda what I thought of when I saw all the spy photos, the cab greenhouse looks almost identical to the 07-12 trucks. I'm really glad to see a lower body line again. Truck sides have too much real estate to be one big curve the whole way down (current trucks).

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Like to see a regular cab, short bed.
And yes, the character line at the bottom makes it look a lot better. All trucks need one right there to break up the big expanse of sheet metal. And while the greenhouse shape seems to be the same, it's not. The current truck has wrap-around door frames while the new one has inset door frames. |

http://gmauthority.com/blog/wp-conte...ed-582x447.jpg http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PQH0f5Ncfk...-CarScoop1.jpg Saw these last week, and it looks better than I thuoght it would, though I think it is still fairly bland next to a Ram or even F-150. That said, they looks decent here, but at least in the first (single color) sketch, I would guarantee the aggresiveness of the tires are waaaay overstated, and that really gives the pictures their beefy, meaty look in that sketch. That is going to be lost with real-world tires. The 2nd (full color) picture has everything in better (more realistic) proportions, and is more what I expect as far as overall feel. Still looks better than I was thinking it would, but again, nothing that is making me say "oh, wow!". |
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
The more I look at the sketches and rendering, the more I think it looks like the current Sierra.
|
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
That's why I said it looks like a "Sierra refresh" with a chevy grill. I've always thought the spy photos of the new truck looked a lot like how the sierra looks now. That could change when GM drops the cloth on the truck... it may look quite a bit different than the sketches.
I hadn't seen the photos in the link below until just now... there's a lot of camo missing on these! The writer even comments on how much it looks like the current truck: http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2014-...photo-5329934/ |
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I like the drawings a lot... if it looks like that... it looks like an 80 chevy pick up.... but modernized... i like it a lot.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I am kind of disappointed that its going to look so much like the current truck. The color rendering looks great, but at the same time I am thinking, thats what should have came out in 2008. I'll reserve final judgement when I see the real thing.
I always thought these trucks looked great....Note to Chevy, bring back the sportside beds!! http://www.adclassix.com/images/89ch...sidepickup.jpg |

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Yes. Bring back the regular cab, short bed, step side! PLEASE!!
And the Sierra rendering looks very nice. I think I like that more than the Silverado rendering. |

Quite frankly, I've never been much of a fan of the step-sides built after the Task Force model (Advance Design is still my favorite). While I like the idea of a regular cab short bed (fleetside); the extended cab is far more practical as an "everyday" truck, although I think the crew-cab version of the GMT900 is the more attractive of the two. The last really good looking Silverado was the GMT800, and then only the 1999-2002 version. I hope this next version reverses the ills of the last generation. :p |
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I have had a few people who have seen the new trucks use the term "yawn" to refer to them. That being said, A Dodge Ram does not look much different than it did 10 years ago either. I think the volume in the full size truck market makes GM very risk adverse in terms of styling.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I like that Sierra. Not sure about the tailights though.
|
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
It looks similar but there are some pretty significant changes, especially for the silverado. The obvious is the fender flares. They look great compared to the slab sided miss matched fenders on the current truck. A one piece not plastic front bumper. A much needed lower body line. ROCKER PANELS!!! A lot of people complain about the lack of a rocker panel on the current truck. Great looking grill. Overall, just a much better looking truck than the 07-13s, and they're all changes that people have complained about on the current truck... it's as if GM finally listened?
I like the Sierra sketch too, but the top of the headlights where they sweep back looks feminine/sissy-ish. |
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Headlights can make or break vehicle. I absolutely hate the dual stacked design. The odd thing is, back in the 1960s, GMC had dual (side-by-side) headlights, while Chevy had one. Now its the opposite. I actually love the look of those old GMCs, but stacked?
|
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I'm afraid the Sierra won't look as good as the white rendering above.
Look at the pics at this link: Spied! 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra with Less Camo - WOT on Motor Trend The 2 trucks are WAYYY similar. Looks like only difference is the grille. That's too bad. |
