.4 over bore would make an old school 350 Chevy... a 423

I think he meant .040

Weight isn't a problem for top speed driving. On the contrary, it actually helps to keep the vehicle on the ground! Land speed racers often increase the weight of their vehicles.

What counts is how much power it makes & how aerodynamic the body is.

Well, actually at that speed, and that weight, usually the thing it comes down to the tires. I don't think Ford is willing to pull the trigger on 200mph+ tires on that car with it's woeful aerodynamics. Not only would they be expensive, but they wouldn't last long at all. There will most likely be a limiter on that car for safety purposes, probably 186mph where Y tire ratings max out at. I don't think the extra 14mph are worth all the extra expense. Remember this car has to be priced near the ZL1.

I understand your logic on tires and pricing, but if there's any official announcement from Ford saying 202mph then it will definitely be offered with Capable tires. Or at least as an option, so that the cars w/out the tires have a speed limiter set up in the calibration.

Why would you think i am arguing for the sake of arguement? My points about wheels/tires/brakes possible additional or larger equipment for intake cooling, etc is all valid.

Official weights havent been given for either car so its all speculation at this point.

I don't know what your smoking, but it's going to be heavier. You don't add 150hp with a factory warranty and not increase weight somewhere unless you want to add $20k for exotic materials.

I doubt it will be heavier then the ZL1, but it's going to pork up some.

I don't like either car, I think they are both bloated pigs compared even to my 4th Gen which with 500rwhp (3,200lbs flat) will annihilate both.

Exactly why I'm looking at a Vette now because I don't like the weights of these cars.

Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!

The ZL1's weight was released when they released other performance specs.

The GT500's weight was released in the introduction to the new car.

The GT500 did gain weight. It was 3820 and now it is 3850. Ford has been on a very active weight reduction program. It is ongoing, as in, when they have found a way to make a part lighter, while not losing reliability, they impliment it as a running change.

All I know is both cars will be extremely traction limited in their stock form, and "superiority" will go down to driver skill.

I guess I was smoking 30lb's worth of difference between the 2012 and 2013 GT500

It actually hasn't been officially released. The 4120lb number is supposedly information that the dealers got, and was leaked.

Yeah I posted that on the last page.

I imagine that doesn't include the Track Pack with the extra coolers. Probably doesn't include the Performance Pack which includes the adjustable dampers or the Torsen LSD.

But at any rate, on a boosted car like the GT500 the potential to make the power was there already, which negated the the need to add massive weight. Although they did strengthen the transmission and upgrade the clutch, that doesn't necessarily add a lot of weight. Probably more cost than mass. The only weight saving feature that is really mentioned is the carbon fiber drive shaft, but that isn't of huge benefit because the U-Joints / yoke is where a lot of the weight is.

I didn't say how much.

I guess 30lbs is nothing when the car already weighs almost two tons.

30lbs on my drag car makes a huge difference. I'm looking at drag brakes now to drop around that number and it's going to cost about $1k to do it. I hate this hobby.

Well 3850 is still less than 4120, just make the mustang drive everywhere with 6 bags of concrete in back then it will weigh about the same.

It can use the balance.

Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!

You guys keep trying to find a way to make a 4120lb 580hp car faster than a 3850lb 650hp car, it is entertaining listening to all the excuses since the Shelby is 18mph faster it is the faster car no debating it so I guess you guys are just arguing about the "ring" debate yet again which the Zl1 isn't gonna win either. Do you guys honestly think Ford bothered to bring a GT500 to the ring in order to loose to a car(ZL1) that was designed to beat last years model and probably not by much at that. I guess so many are so blind or unable to accept that a Ford is faster than the top dog Camaro, hey it happens but I think you all will be in for a few years of misery since the current platform is too heavy and until some new motors come out there isn't anything in the GM arsenal that is gonna beat it that includes the LS9 which is still short of the 5.8's 650hp.

Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!

Anyone who is in utter disbelief that a Ford can faster than a Chevy (and there are quite a few) suck as car enthusiasts.

I think what many are trying to express is while the upcoming GT500 is a serious answer to the ZL1, it may not kick its *** on the pavement quite as much as it does on paper.

I am interested to see how things shake out.

I also think it is awesome that Ford managed to come out with a Mustang that has more power (again, on paper) than the ZR1. No matter how anyone slices it, that is very impressive.
