2013 GT500... 650hp!!
Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!

, it weighs less and has a lot more power and Ford isn't gonna try and rub Chevy's nose int he dirt? I don't get this obsession everyone these days has with "the Ring". Like everycar made has to go there and then they constantly change change the starting points and flying starts to the point nobody can really keep up with who runs what. 99.9% of the buyers of these things ever run their car in a similar fashion. I just want a fast comfortable car, I could give a crap if it has been on a track in Germany, means absolutely nothing to me other than magazine racing.

Yeah right

Seems like a no brainer. I will take the one that won't rattle out my teeth going down Mack Avenue.

Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!
ZL1 is an all around better car. Ford, not GM, is the one obsessed with HP numbers. Even the 03 and 04 Cobra's never performed like their HP numbers said they would until you put tires on them and some other mods. And lets not forget that Ford has been successfully sued for putting out false numbers too. I doubt Ford will run the ring at all - standard shocks and a solid axle vs magnetic shocks and an IRS. You can keep your 70 HP, not going to help you at the ring. A lot more corners there than straightaways.

Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!
What is the best "official" 'Ring time for a Mustang to date? I am unable to find the 'Ring time in the link above. I am sure I just missed it. What did R&T do it in?
Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!
Not sure how anyone can come to any really informed conclusion about that since neither car will be available until spring. I know Chevy says this will be the case but what do you expect them to say?
It also depends on what you're looking for. Purely as a performance platform, the Mustang's lighter weight and beefy forged engine internals make it a very attractive package. I still think Chevy is being pretty damn stubborn by giving us a stretched-thin bottom end in the LSA.
How very 1999 of you. In reality, all of Ford's Mustang HP numbers have probably been underrated since that time.
According to a post at TeamShelby, they are running the Ring with it if that stuff matters to you.

I wouldn't go nuts about the magnetic shocks in terms of performance advantage. As far as I understand them their biggest advantage is that they can go from firm under performance situations to supple under cruising situations unlike a more traditional race shock. At each car's limit the shock technology shouldn't be a factor.

Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!
The new GT500 has some sort of electronic shocks with two sets of shock valving.
But as for the comment about MSRC only changing the ride quality, that is absolutely not the case. The shock valving is varied real time and does matter at the limit. Especially on a track that isn't glass smooth. More composure over mid corner bumps, more roll control, more traction during acceleration. Look at the difference in the Z06 with standard shocks and the MSRC. It wasn't all tires that improved the lap time.

I don't think this is going to make the ZL1 vastly superior to a GT500 on a road course though. It will give a slight advantage, as does IRS on a bumpy course. But there are a host of other factors like the weight and tires. On a fast track like Nurburgring the extra power to weight can shave a lot of time.
Re: 2013 GT500... 650hp!!
Though it's hard to quantify the advantage, and would be different on every car I'm sure.

But it was pioneered by GM/Delphi. The 2003 Cadillac STS was the first production car to have Magnetorheological shocks. Ferrari actually uses the system developed at Delphi, but now property of BWI.

This car ain't no joke! If this Shelby sells for about the same as the ZL1 then it will definitely be a winner. I guess Ford got tired of hearing about how they aren't suppose to compete with Vettes.
