I can already tell you that I'd rather have a base Corvette over the Z28 and I have little idea what the MSRP will be on the Z28. This isn't Camaro5, there are many people here who have no interest in a 4100+ pound "pony car".

I'd rather have the Z28 than a base Corvette. Z28 will have more features, the LSA, and have more stand out styling. The only Vette I would want would be a Grand Sport, Z06, or ZR1. The base Vette has been out for so long and there are so many on the road that they are no longer special to me. It is time for the C7.

In terms of performance I'd rather have the Vette. The LSA is nice and all but more power and nose-heavy balance isn't necessarily what the 5th Gen needs. As far as more features, I'm not sure what is available on the 5th Gen that isn't on the Vette. Vette has OnStar, HUD, etc...just about everything you'd want except the boost gauge.

I personally wouldn't pay that, but some will.

Well, getting there.

Judging by how posts are getting deleted around here, there's an effort to transconfigure this into merely a "fan" site, and not the interesting enthusiast site it once was.

I've found an easy solution, don't post in the 5th Gen forums. I'd like to think that no criticisms of any vehicle are off limits in this particular section.

Ok Charlie............. you had to watch the show on SPEED. You have to want this car. Hell, I want this car.

How cool is it to buy a street car, that actually started life as a track car. Now, I just need to find $45K.

Bob, if you get one, you have to come to AZ and let me just drive it once............ PLEASE !!!!

Re: 2012 Mustang Boss 302 priced at $40,995

The Boss is a very capable vehicle, no doubt. I am not enough of a Mustang enthusiast to pony up $40k for one though. That is fine for Ford since there are plenty of others that would be happy to so there will be no problem with excess supply.

Maybe it is because I have tended to modify my cars, or maybe I don't think I will be shopping for a dedicated limited production track weapon, but I think as far as value to me the Mustang GT for around $30K is a bit more appealing. Obviously it doesn't come with all the hardware as the Boss, and is also a lot more common, but it is also a capable vehicle. But then again, I already have the Formula, which I don't want to get rid of any time soon, so the Mustang V6 almost makes more sense if it would be the daily car...

I would almost certainly get a lightly used Corvette instead of the Laguna Seca edition... Same applies to Z28 at that price point.

A Vette could never work for me, as I would have to shove my 8-year-old in the cargo area. They probably have laws against that.

He is a huge enthusiast also, so he should not be left out.

I think the Boss is a huge bargain, for what it is. As someone who has massively modified a Mustang................. and, I might add, in much the same ways the Boss is built............ I can appreciate the cost, work, and time that is involved. The time is something that I just don't have anymore. Plus, as an individual, I would be playing hit and miss with mods, to get the correct combination dialed in. With the Boss, everything will work exactly how it is supposed to.

It is the ultimate handling lovers car. An actual race car, with a license plate. The drivetrain and suspension are the same as the 302R racecars. This was the testing bed for the car. How cool is that. Trial by fire, if you may.

I got on the phone with my husband, and told him I want a Boss. He knows me by now. Maybe we will have to sell the Yenko Stinger. Hmmmm...........

Just watched it. Wow. Everyone should check it out. I was imagining what it would be like if these were GM engineers, GM race car drivers, GM executives all at Laguna Seca, describing the lengths they're going to in order to develop the iconic Z/28. Sadly, that's just a fantasy.

This car will be worth every freaking penny. I hope the Boss opens some eyes at Chevy. Doubt it though.

I'll post more thoughts on the other site where we can speak freely...

I don't know. You would need to check the SPEED channel. It was on a couple of times last night, and is a 1 hour show called "Boss 302, the remaking of a legand."

I am sure they will run it again, I just don't know when.

I just checked on it. It will run again today at 10:00am ET, 12/8 at 2:00pm ET, and 12/09 at 2:00am ET.

Re: 2012 Mustang Boss 302 priced at $40,995

The show made the Boss 302 look like an awesome piece, which I'm sure it is. However some of the guys came off a bit cocky if you ask me. Still it was cool seeing Parnelli Jones shaking out the new Boss.

I'll say this much, and I'm sure Charlie will agree, the Boss 302 should've been GM's benchmark for the Z/28. Historical precedence aside, its one bad little pony.
