Looks pretty boring. Though I'm sure a finished product will look better, I'm skeptical (I actually like the way the current Malibu looks, though I agree the interior could use some freshening)

Re: 2012 Malibu spy shots
Can't really tell a whole lot, although, it does look like they finally fixed the goofy looking flat tail. The very back was my only complaint about the styling of the current car.
Re: 2012 Malibu spy shots
I think it will look pretty good. It is a midsized sedan styled to sell 200,000 units a year +, I don't expect Camaro like stand out styling.
While something like 75-80% of Malibus are sold with a 4cyl., I too think it is too early to drop the V6 option. Turbo 4 is probably a better choice, but I just don't think the public is ready for the V6 to be done just yet.
What I would like to see is AWD teamed up with the 4cyl. For some reason Ford won't give people this combo in the Fusion. If the Equinox can get 29mpg, the lighter Malibu should be able to get 30mpg+ with AWD.

I know everyone will say, wait until you see it in the flesh, and that's a valid point. But, I can't ever remember seeing a pre-production spy pic and then having a completely different opinion of the real car. This one will lose alot of the attractive proportions which the current Maliby carries so well.
Re: 2012 Malibu spy shots
I like the current Malibu, except for the ***-end, which looks a bit dated.
I also like the new Cruze... a lot.
I'm hoping when it is finally unveiled the new Malibu will have some Cruze styling influences and not look too much like a Toyota.
And then I'm hoping for a more aggressive looking next gen Impala.

Re: 2012 Malibu spy shots
I think the current Malibu is still the best looking car in it's class... inside and out. I really like it all around.
Therefore, I kinda expect to be let down by the new one, though I hope I am wrong.

If someone told me that was a Camry, I'd believe them.
