2011 Mustang

I did not see this posted yet. Found this info on a Ford website and also on camaro5.com Hope its true. Camaro will have some ground to make up, if the weight stays down on Mustang. I wonder what the Boss with have for HP. This should also drop 100lbs off the front of the GT500. V-6 Mustang should be one fun ride.

* 3.7L V6 to be rated at 315 horsepower: Same as 2010 GT; 15 hp more than Camaro V6
* No immediate plans for EcoBoost V6 Mustang due to small horsepower gap between EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 (365 vs 400)
* 2011 Mustang GT to be rated at 400 horsepower, will get increase in 2012
* 2011 Mustang GT to get 6-speed transmission and variable valve timing
* 2011 Mustang GT Track Pack to include Brembo brakes
* 2011 Mustang GT 5.0L V8, 6-speed, track pack, Brembo brakes ran even with 414-hp BMW M3, which is 200 lbs lighter, at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan
* 2011 Shelby GT500 to get Aluminum Block
* Next special edition: 2012 Boss

What else is there to discuss other than the fact this is awesome? This is good...it needs to light a fire under the Camaro team to improve.

It's going to get ugly for Camaro. Unless Mustang gains 300 pounds that is.

From that information, I assume the standard engine will be an iron block?

M3 being 200lbs lighter than the GT? Are they saying the GT will weigh 3,800lbs?

Everything else looks great, but i hope they're wrong about the weight. Or maybe i read that wrong.

Frankly, I just don't know where Camaro goes from here.

With a 100 horsepower advantage, Brembos and IRS for Camaro, Mustang still wins most comparos. Next year, the hp gap closes and Mustang also gets Brembos. The year after, Mustang (Boss?) gets GDI, 30-ish more HP and an available IRS.

BTW, a 3450 pound base Mustang with a 315 hp V6 sounds sweet too.

We need Alpha now!

From one of the posters on camaro5.com...

2009 M3 = 3704lbs
So the 2011 5.0 = 3900 lbs ?
Maybe someone better informed can chime in here but I'm led to believe that if the engine is all new then the car must be subject to new crash testing regulations? If that is the case, then perhaps the 2011 Mustang will gain some love handles?

Anyway, that post raises more questions than provides answers.

Interesting times given GM's Gen V is just around the corner. Bring it on!

You sure about that? In just about every comparison I've seen, outside of a couple, the Camaro has come out on top. The comparos usually have praised the Mustang GT's (w/ Track Pack) handling, but they also praise the Camaro's engine/acceleration and superior ride quality.

I will agree that we need Alpha to keep the Camaro competitive. I hope that the Camaro team takes a proactive approach with the 6th gen - take the fight to the Mustang, instead of reacting to it.

Nope, the Coyote as AL, the GT500 is going from CI to AL and a 3800 curb weight for the GT????? I find that highly suspect. The current GT500 has the heavy as hell CI DOHC SC 5.4 and it weighs 3900 lbs (and yes the 5.4 mill in the GT500 is VERY VERY portly). If say Ford was unable to make the 5.0 any lighter than the current DOHC mod motors I wouldn't put the curb weight over 3700 pounds even with GT500 spec running gear (trans and brakes). A good look a the 5.0 Coyote shows a much different and more compact cylinderhead design than the current 4.6/5.0 DOHC stuff so again I find this 3800 lbs blurb dubious at best

Pretty freaking sure. If you're going strictly by 1/4 miles - yes the Camaro wins. But most reviewers choose the Mustang overall thanks to better handling, better steering, better interior, better driving position.

Looks like used '10 GTs will be pretty cheap once the '11s are out.

Damn! Sounds pretty awesome, assuming the weight is kept in check...
