2010 Mustang GT Revealed

The only thing that suprises me about the hp arguments is the total discounting of the GT500. It seems pretty clear that Ford slots the GT as the mid level performer, there really isn't a Camaro rival to it, except maybe the RS V6. If you want to compare apples to apples compare an SS to a GT500 like SS vs Cobra comparisons back a few years ago. Mustang has 3 models, Camaro 2 (for now), so there's not going to be a direct overlap.

The GT500 is slotted up on the top end where the Camaro has no comparable model currently. They're relatively rare and pretty expensive, why would we really bring that up when talking about the new mainstream performance Mustang?

No, N/A 400hp 5.0 with an M6 in MY11 is what is supposed to happen. The 4.0 should be phased out as well and replaced with the 3.5, I've also heard the MY11 GT500 is probably getting an all aluminum 5.4 (Ford now offers a wet sump aluminum 5.4 through FRPP and it doesn't appear to be a machined version of the GT(40) dry sump 5.4, Ford mentions using similar technology employed in the 3v S/C blocks - mainly stronger bulkheads - so this might actually be the basis for the '11 GT500 engine).
Speaking of the GT500, I wonder if they will switch to the TVS blower? Its a solid 100hp upgrade for the current engine and would make for a killer upgrade if combined with the aluminum block in the '11 (this last bit is all speculation in any event).

A $4000 price premium is considered competitive? I'm afraid that after the first year run on SS's is over, MY11 will be a significant swing back to the Mustang, particularly if it gets the 400hp engine (which shouldn't add much to the cost, just as the LS1 didn't add much over the LT1.)

Pricing for the 2010 Mustang is out. I don't remember the exact figure (feel free to search... it's here somewhere), but a GT Premium is within a couple hundred of a 1SS, and those two cars are pretty comparably equipped (except in the power and rear suspension departments ).

As far as being comparably equipped, the GT Premium has the following over the 1SS.
-Leather seats
-Dual zone a/c
-Top level stereo
-Leather steering wheel
-Steering wheel radio controls
-Ambient lighting
and a few other minor things not worth mentioning. Now, if you want to REALLY compare equipment and go w/ the GT deluxe which has 1SS comparable cloth seats, base stereo, no frilly lights, ect, then you're talking $4000, not a few hundred. Camaros hp never saved it in the sales department in the past, and I don't believe it will now. What WILL help it is the fact that it's new, and it should be a more comfortable car. But when the initial excitement wears off, and all the leg humpers have got their cars, that $4000 is going to come into play big time I'm afraid.
