And for those who think it would be slow, its all about the gearing. 6spds give a heck of an advantage. I remember 22re toyotas being faster then 4.3L S-10's thanks to gearing.
Yup, i see this as a play to be ahead of the curve for when gas hits the $4 range again.

Last time it was at $4 I had a dealer tell me a lot of customers said they wanted something that got over 30mpg. I think that is a big psychological barrier that GM wants to get past with customers. He said people wouldn't eve look at a car that didn't get 30mpg.

I think this is a great plan. Offer more fuel efficiency than anyone else in the segment. When gas hits $4, it will help greatly. Then thing that I think should be different is offering it throughout the trim levels. At least on CXL. Having it only at the lower trim levels reminds of how the Malibu was offered. You couldn't get an LTZ with the 4 cyl at first. Gas spiked. You had the option of features, or mileage. People want both.

While I like the concept, this instance is retarded. You can get a big Avalon with 18/28 with a 268 h.p. v6. For the 2mpg difference the underpowered Buick does not make sense. If the Buick could hit better numbers, then I would agree, I like the idea.

Camry competitor. About time GM started chasing Toyota sales. This Buick looks svelte.

Says 30 MPG Highway
down below it says EPA estimation pending

Also says available "late 2009" I thought this car was supposed to be available now? Maybe they are talking about this engine package?

That's for the 2.4L SIDI.

LaCrosse competes more with Avalon than camry. Malibu competes directly with camry.

But... if it comes in at 31-32 mpg that 30mpg or better number will stick in peoples heads. Have you driven a six speed GM product?? The 3.6L motivates the 5000lb traverse just fine, the 2.4L will be fine. AND I bet the price comes in lower than an Avalon.
