The Thunderbird SC was the ultimate Thunderbird save the original 2 seater.
Agreed.

Welcome to the club. I love Ameriacn performance. I've never owned an import, but that's because they haven't come up with something I'd really want. A G35 is nice, but when you get to the basics, for 30 large, there's plenty of other American cars you can buy that have so much more.

I'm a refugee from Ford, myself. Did a series of 5.0s, discovered the SC on a fluke, and came to Camaros when Ford ran away from performance in the mid '90s and their service department went down the tubes. Outside of the seeming fact that GM doesn't know how to make a decent stock clutch or alternator, and the fact that it seems that GM can't design a lasting power window motor to save their collective lives, I'm generally about as happy with my Camaro as I was with the Stangs. What the Camaro lacks in "personality" it makes up for in speed. And hey... if nothing else, at least the A/C and stereo last beyond 125K miles without replacing something.

I'm just getting really pieved(sp?) with the way the certain drivers, namingly my roomate, fellow memebers of TCC and SCCoa members act while out on the streets of the town in which i live, and how they think they know everything about cars including theirs...
Sir, that's not just 'Bird owners. Every single car has those that love their cars, but don't know everything about it. Some of the things you're bringing up seem to just be a few people who are a difficult people. All young enthusiasts "know everything" about a car. I used to be that way myself.

Edit: Last Tiny rant i swear. Also on another note, my roomy honestly believes even though I showed him, this is his quote, that my oil pressure gauge sending unit is located on the front of the engine on my Camaro, i even showed him it sitting right next to my distributor and right above the oil filter, which he still says "that should be at the front" and he says z28's didn't come with 305's standard from the factory even though thats sitting right in our dam driveway a factory 305 sitting right there with the rpo's vin and other info. he coould look up he refuses to look up cause he thinks he's always right. ok i'm don't and sorry for sound like an ahole I do feel better though.
Mr Wolf, my son still gets people who tells him that their Honda can take my Camaro.

One of his friends in Monterey who worked with him has a 5.0 and his brother had a a non SC Mustang Cobra with NOS (I say "had" because his NOS injector blew into the engine ). One night I picked him up and on the 6 lane stretch of the 101 his friend caught up to us. He suddenly felt the need to run with my SC. Poor kid couldn't get away from me. Another night I had my '97, and he had put in a shift kit (it's an automatic) and a 3.73 gear set. It was a good effort, but he'd have a better shot running against the 'Bird.

The Thunderbird SC IMHO is perhaps the best big coupe ever made in the US. They were over-engineered, prohibitively expensive when they came out, and the wilder drivers were snatching up Mustangs. As a result, insurence on SCs is dirt cheap, they are in unusually good condition for their age, and they are as quick as 5.0s (which tend to be pretty ratty and cost even more than comprable Z28s to insure thanks to it's drivers).

According to this
The LS does 0-60 in 7.5 seconds and the 1/4 in 15.7.
The SC does the same in 7.0 and 15.2 respectively.

So the 3.8 SC V6 was a dog in a 3800 lb coupe and the 3.9 V8 will straight ****and get in a 3800 lb sedan, despite the V6 being faster?

Really?

7.0 to 60 mph in an SC?

Hmmm.....

Car & Driver's 1st test has it at 6.7 & my first one ran just a tick over 6 flat.

No flame war. I'm a peacenik.

LS1s produce more power than LT1s at about the same mileage, and I can actually get to the spark plugs on my LS1, but to me the LT1 has more rumble, looks better, and best of all.... doesn't sound like a 70s era diesel for the first 5-10 minutes of running.
