2008 Corvette pricing released

Basic summary.
Base model Vette price has gone up ~900-1000 dollars, BUT it now includes XM radio, onstar, and auto dimming mirrors standard.

3LT pricing drops a bit due to some equipment being standard, though is still up a bit.

The big shocker (at least for me): GM wants 3500 bucks for the 4LT package, which does absolutely nothing over the 3LT except wrap some components of the interior with leather.

1LT Corvette Equipment Group $0.00 $0.00
1LZ Corvette Z06 Equipment Group $0.00 $0.00
2LT Corvette Coupe Equipment Group $1,495.00

2LZ Corvette Z06 Preferred Equipment $3,045.00

A price increase of $900-1000 is only about 2% fixed for inflation the Vette is cheaper than last year.

Z51 package is a great value

Why is the Z51 package so much more popular than F55 Magnetic selective ride control? Seems like F55 would give you the best of both worlds, or at least close enough to it?

I saw the Z51 setup comes with a power steering cooler and oil cooler... do those really improve the durability of the car if you don't beat the crap out of it at the race track, or are they just for tracking, really?

The Z51 is the base Corvette's track package, so it stands to reason the package would include some track-enhancing goodies....no, if you're a weekend cruiser/non-serious racer I doubt the coolers will mean much....

Some of the pricing on Corvette options have become rather crazy, IMO.

I agree the 4LT package pricing is basically insane. I like the leather wrap a lot... but sheeeeeeeeeeeeez....

I also think that $1300 for polished wheels ($1500 on Z06.... why $200 more than the markup for a regular Vette?!?!) , Want actual chrome? Cough up $1850 more! (Z06 is again higher at an additional $150.... why?!?!)

$1200 for the optional exhaust?!?! C'mon!!

And...... I KNEW this would happen sooner or later... I complained about this a long time ago, but have you noticed how the extra cost paints have been slowly taking over?

Jetstream Blue replaces Lemans blue... Lemans blue was a $300 paint, Jetstream is a $750 paint.

Atomic Orange ($300) replaced Daytona Sunset orange which was a no-markup paint a year ago...

Now we have 8 paint choices on Corvette (which I still say is about 4 colors too few) and HALF of them are upcharges!! You can get Black, White, Red, or Silver for "free"... that's it.

It's getting to be ridiclous.

So OnStar is now required when you buy a vette?

I agree from a traditional standpoint of the Vette always bringing value to the table.

However, with that said, it is par for the course. If you look at comparable offerings from, say, Porsche, for example - a bunch of upcharge colors and super expensive froo-froo options, including expensive leather on the dash and wheels that cost a bundle more but couldn't possibly cost Porsche more than another couple hundred bucks to upgrade to.

Maybe they're just trying to cater to that crowd, as well as leave the basic less expensive Vette in tact for the less freely spending enthusiasts as well?

This does make me wonder... what are their plans for the C7? I wonder if it's going to be moving dramatically upmarket?

That's fine with me so long as they finally move the rest of the car upmarket with the price... no more half-assed interior bits and build quality.

Oh boy on star which requires a subscription or XM radio which requires a subscription.
So I have extra buttons, weight and a big brother GPS stuffed in my car that do nothing when I don't renew the subscription

And come on $750 for fricking paint. We all know orange doesn't cost any more then red. I know it's just a way to nickel and dime people but give me a break. ALL the manufactors **** me off when they charge a lot for items that cost them ZERO extra to make then the piece it's replacing.

Suddenly 2.73 gears cost more, yet in the past they were cheap and you couldn't give them away and 3.23's cost more.
Fricking stupid. It cost the same amount to cut a gear no matter the ratio.

Any model
starting at $3.74.
As shown with tires, windows and a steering wheel and everything else that should be standard $7,834,949,456

The base convertible now costs exactly half of what I paid for a 3 bedroom full basement house. Whats wrong with that picture.

Don't forget power jumps to 425 or 435hp with the LS3's big L92 heads. Between the new "standard" options and the bump in power featuring the 260cc heads its a great deal from Chevy as always!

Does that 4LT package wrap the dash in leather too?

My guess here is that because they are bigger, lighter wheels on the Z06, the cost of polish/chrome coating is slightly more. The chrome 5-spoke ZR1-style wheels on my SS were a $995 factory option....but they were only 17" and the chrome job by SLP left a lot to be desired (just look at a wheel when it isn't on the car...only the visible face is dipped! )

Agreed. The new exhaust is cool and probably sounds killer, but really, there's better value in an aftermarket setup that probably makes more than 10 HP.

I'm sure the specialty paints cost more to manufacture and mix (and may even take more time to apply in the paint booth? ) For sure though, I'd rather see some different basic colors they can offer at no extra charge.

About the paint... I know the upcharge colors are special tinited clear coats, etc... and they probably actually do cost a bit more... and that is actually fine with me...but I think the pricetag for them is overly high...

What's not fine is that now upcharge paint accounts for 50% of your color choices.

If they want 4 upcharge colors out there... fine... but add 4 more colors that are NOT upcharge colors, and have a total of 12 colors.

I've complained time and time again about there not being enough colors offered on a lot of cars these days... especially on cars that people really care about, like Corvette (and Camaro, etc)

The other thing that drives me nuts is when the UPPER model of a car line has even fewer choices than the base car... you pay more for the car, and have few paint choices... (Example Z06 cannot be had in white or dark red (well the special edition is white, but you get the point)

If you want a Monterrey Red Metallic Z06, use should be able to get one.

... and while I'm ranting about Corvette paint, let me touch on this:

I think Jetstream Blue is actually the first significant colro change on the C6 since it came out.

Let's review the paint changes so far:

Precision Red changed to Victory Red. Almost no one can tell.

Daytona Sunset Orange changed to Atomic Orange. Almost no one can tell, but now it's a premium color.

Millenium Yellow changed to Velocity Yellow. Almost no one can tell.

Magnetic Red changed to Monterrey Red changed to Crystal Red. Almost no one can tell.

Lemans Blue changed to Jetstream Blue... finally can at least tell it's a new color.

Where's the green? OK, maybe greens not the "in" color right now... Where's the dark carbon grey metallic that is so hot right now and would look AWESOME on a C6? Where's the Navy Blue Metallic? How about something new over 4 years of the same body?

LOL, I guess I'm a Corvette Diehard because I can tell the difference between all those colors when I see one . One thing about the AO, last year it was a $750 color, this year it is a $300 color like LMB was last year, so that's a little better. I'm absolutely with you about 1)not enough colors, 2)too many upcharge colors, 3)too many colors of the 8 w/ limited desirability (yellow, orange, white).

I'm stuck between a Crystal Red/cashmere and a VR/2 tone red. Not sure which way I'm going to go.

The upcharge exhaust is made by Corsa. Explains the $1200 right there. Close to what you would pay for an aftermarket Corsa just about anywhere.
