Erm...

Allison is a division of General Motors, and the tranny had been used in Chevy and GMC medium duty trucks.

The 5R110 has been an amazingly troublefree transmission thus far. Frankly, even I am surprised, as completely new transmissions often have teething problems. Hell, the Allison 1000 wasn't even a completely new transmission (was new to GM) and it had alot of teething problems when they first came out in the HD's. Most of the problems were electronics related.

Thus, if you are talking about the 4R100, I can agree with you to a point (most people had no problems at all), however, if you are talking the 5R110............ you will have to prove that one to me. I have visited the Diesel sites to check up on them also, as we did plan to get an '05 Superduty.
Actually I was thinking of the one thats somethign like the 4w70 something (alpha-numerically). I don't remember the specific model, but it sounded a lot like that one, which I remembered because thats what was in my Mustang. It was in a 2000 F250, and it needed to be replaced in the first year. The mechanic who I talked to at the dealer was a good friend and told me that one (and a few others) were always having problems.

All this High HP is going to cause HUGE accidents talk is just STUPID!

People with 120hp civics have caused enough accidents to cause there insurance to skyrocket. The high price tag will cause most inexperienced drivers to not go for it i think. How many people buy mustangs? Kids and enthusists. Kids cant afford 36k for a car...unless mommy and daddy buy them and even that, most would prob have a benze for that price. 36K is going to keep it high enough to keep it out of the kids hands and only for the man with the full time job. How manny accidents occur with v8 cars? Prob less then fwd v6 or v4. Sure you can have a 500 hp car, that will do 0-60 in 4 seconds but will that really cause a person to cause a spectactular accident? Most likely no. How many recks have you seen on the news involveing even 300hp cars? I havent seen ONE yet. More mini vans and civics then anything. The fact that it has 500 hp is not going to make it more prone to accident. The driver, who feels the need to do a smoke show and hit some kid is. Our cars dont handle that well, and i can imagine that the new stang wont handle any better.

Regardless of ones feelings on high HP cars, how could any US citizen be for more Gov. control. We have less freedom every day in this country. (esp. if you live in comunist Cali.) Pretty soon people will be saying... In China the streets are paved with gold.

I don't think anyone would be for this except for the leftist ex-hippie set. By talking about it I am not advocating it, I'm just making everyone aware that this is quite possible. Pretty Orwellian if you ask me.
