2007 Camaro vs. 2007 RX-7
i like going to sites like this to see people like you blab about stuff they dont understand. for example, neversummer a 79 turbo rx7 hmmm did they turbo first gen. no the only turbo first gen is done by swopn to a 13bt or rew13btt. also a 250hp n/a 13b is yet to be in mazda speeds line up.mabey your thinkin of the 255hp twin turbo. z28x yes they burn oil. the oil a rotary burns is injected by a oil metering pump, or in some racing applications pre-mixed like your weed eater. they typically burn 1qt every oil change. also i am a vehicle inspector in texas and the only rxs that fail emissions run like **** a good runnin rx will pass with flying colors. and z28x you think they have 1/4 the hp of a big block go to www.dysonrotary.com

And on a side note, WTF's with mazda? I'd swear they got a spy inside GM, or they are watching the GM spyphotos in the rags real close, for inspiration on their own vehicles! They ripped off the C5 looks with the rx-7 just before it debuted, and again with the Chevy SS concept car looks, and that other little ****box rx-8, or whatever it is. And also with much of nissan's friggin' line, looks an aweful lot like the awesome Art & Science, Cadillac style of late (ie, CTS, STS, etc.)! WTF! For people who can't build cars, they sure get copied alot..........must be BS, eh!!!
n e ways i wasnt try to hurd ne 1s feelings just think people ruin forums like this when they blab bull**** thats not true. dont know it dont say it.
they r the 1s who argue that a dz302 is a ford motor
How hard is it to type the actual words instead of that illegible BS?
Rotary motors, at least the first gen are 2 Rotor split in the center sealed by a gasket. They were also aluminum to save weight. That meant you really had to watch your temp gauge. Overheating could mean warping which would cost you your engine.
So if youre ever considering one and it has an oil leak pass it up. but they were light and fun and could go to 300k mi. when taken care of. I thought the neat thing was the only thing that moves are the rotor, and the crank. I liked that it could rev like hell, and didnt work like any other car on the road. The sheetmetal is paper thin though, and for that reason alone I would be afraid to buy another.

Seriously though. Why resurrect a 2 year old thread just to make a pointless point? The RX-7 was a great car. The RX-8 is an ugly duckling. Neither are in the same category as Camaro, so why even go there?
Why are we comparing a 4 passenger V8 coupe with a 2 passenger sports car?
This reminds me of those Camaro SS vs Nissan "Z" comparisons some people here made, completely ignoring the Infinity G35 coupe from the same company that actually was in the same class & price range as the Camaro.

The car is supposed to get a refresh in 2008 and pack about 350hp while staying in the same price range. Are you saying that its not a camaro competitor because it only has 2 seats? Personally, no one rides in the back of my Camaro, I cant afford to buy a Vette and if I dont like the 5th gen, a Z car is definately on the radar. The G35 on the other hand is more expensive and luxurious. It starts at $33,000. I'd say it's more in line with the GTO.
Wow thread from the dead.
I know I know - don't feed the trolls...
So.... you agree then that a 79 can be a turbo? Cuz mine was.
Sorry - my numbers were off two years ago - or Mazda changed their specs. Anyway I was refering to the NEW 1.3 rotary engine offered in the RX-8. They rate it at 232 hp @ 8500 rpm. I never said Mazda Speed had plans for the rotary. Ah, whatever...

It's true. The 1st year or 2 of the C5, Camaro Z28s could out run them on a track. Not by a huge margin, mind you, but it wasn't until a change in the C5 (active handling??) that the C5 outran the Z28.
Weight, tires, IRS, and all the other items people imagine as rulebook factors in handling in reality aren't.
Truth is, the live-axle Camaro Z28 is a sort of miracle of GM's engineering ability.

It was never a z28 outhandling a C5. It was a 1LE SS, and it was all in the tires. I don't recall the exact tire the SS had (I think they were BFGs), but they were substantially better than the Vette's stock Goodyears, which is what is what running. I forget what course this was on, and what tires the 4th gen was running with, but I believe z284ever knows. Somehow I don't think Red is going to talk about this a whole lot.
Same tires on both cars, and the Vette is going to win, everytime.
I have heard the corvette stealing the rx-7's styling argument several times. They do look very similar. I remember hearing about a thread on a vette forum where some guy posted pics of an FD claiming he just bought a new c5. No one caught it until he told them.
You may want to check on the RX-8 HP, with the new hp rating system, they are now at 218hp, according to the window sticker. A far cry from their original 240hp rating when they first came out. BTW, Mazdaspeed does have plans for it, but it won't be a turbo, won't pass emissions. Think 'Add-a-rotor' for where the extra hp comes from. Just one more to flood out and the car won't start.
A choice between any rotory car and a 5th gen is not a hard choice. Pushrod power all the way.
