Well what I have been told from some realyable ppl that the Camaro will return. I was also told at the Philly car show this yr by respected sources that Chevvy could bring out the car at any time they wanted too, but from what they say they want to do it right. One more thing, expect it to be an anniversary return.

Not necessarily.

Usually, a "respected source" winds up being a salesperson at a dealership who usually know nothing and is just shooting off what they heard (or didn't hear). Or, other times is is "my uncle's friend who works in a GM plant and he would know".

I was just curious.

True. Salesmen typically don't even know what's dropping next month, let along 2 1/2 years down the road.

Hey hey hey now...not ALL are like that. The problem becomes when you can learn more from a site like this than you can through GMs own information supply chain. I learned more through here than I ever did through a GM DCS message.

Not that I deny many salespeople are better qualified to sell fish tanks...that's painfully obvious

Bring out the car anytime they wanted too? Wrong.

Plenty of reasons behind that not limited to the Ste. Therese plant and the lack of a chassis to put it on. Wouldn't believe that person.

Wider.

The car itself won't exactly be right for Camaro, but it's structure & components will be.

The actual Zeta itself won't be a small car. The vehicles we'll get initially will be large Holden Statesman sized cars (think Park Avenue & Monte Carlo). IF there's a Camaro, I'd be expecting it to be a spinoff of Zeta, not actually Zeta itself.



And yes, I do believe the next GTO will be slightly bigger than the current one.

Jeff, I know you must know this more than anyone else here, but the Fiero was engineered from the start to accept V6 engines. I also suspect that you are aware that since Fiero is rear-mid engined, and based on a Front Wheel Drive drivetrain, and the Solstice is front-mid engined & based on a Rear Drive drivetrain, we are talking about 2 entirely different structures with entirely different issues.

Just one example is turning radius and wide tires. On a rear-mid engine car (ie: Fiero), space between the front wheels to allow this isn't an issue since the engine is behind the passenger compartment. Yet in a front-mid engine car (ie: Solstice) it is an issue because the engine resides in front of the passenger compartment, and has to fit between the front wheels.

Fitting a V8 or even a V6 engine isn't an issue when width or turning diameter or tire size isn't an issue. But with Fiero it is. When Ford went to 225 size tires on the Mustang in '85, they went through alot of expense to get it to fit (and still keep a decent turning radius).

Spaceframes are engineered to whatever specifications are layed out. Any changes to it will need to undergo every single durability test the original went through.

I really like Fieros as you do, but the only way you can compare Solstice & Fiero is to say they both have 2 seats and sold in Pontiac showrooms.

I cant agree with this. I am comparing them based on their structure. Both are built on a compact space frame, with almost identical dimensions ( I dont think it is just a coincidence.) In fact in the Saturn Curve press release it is stated the kappa chassis is based on existing production components. A mid-engine space frame model can be used to create a front engine model. Ford used the gt space frame to build the shelby cobra concept.

Front engine or rear the car must be wide enough to fit a v8 and those wide tires. Fiero is 68.9 inches wide with 215 tires in rear and a v8 can fit e-w. The solstice is 71.6 inches wide with 245 tires. Solstice is only 2 inches narrower then a c5 Corvette which also has 245 tires up front. I dont think 2 inches difference in width would prevent a v8.
