2006 Pontiac Torrent

from Autoweek
Pontiac has chosen the name Torrent for a new sport wagon coming next year, industry sources say.

The 2006 model-year vehicle will be based on General Motors' Theta platform, which is shared by the Chevrolet Equinox and Saturn Vue. Front- and all-wheel-drive models are expected.

GM North America President Gary Cowger said the Pontiac vehicle will not be a rebadged Vue or Equinox.

Said Cowger: "It has good differentiation in styling, ride, handling and interior." -RICK KRANZ
Another article says GM will move more away from sedans and more toward "sport wagons"...

Not quite. Magnum is a rear drive car with no "crossover" pretentions. Theta is an SUV/minivan platform that is trying to avoid the "car" label.

umm..... Magnum is a RWD station wagon or Hemi powered drag'n wagon. Vue, Equinox, & the Pontiac are unibody lite-SUVs like the Ford Escape.

Pontiac needs something to replace the Aztec. Now the only question is.... can Theta support the LS4 ???

Equinox is getting the 3.9 (275hp I believe), so I assume the Torrent will have the same.

The 3.9 (about 240hp), will be in the Equinox SS.

I thought I heard it was getting the HFV6? It looks as though you are saying it will get the HVV6? Are you 100% about this?

All indications point to HV V6. But there is 3 valve 3.9L HV V6 coming out that puts out 270HP+/- http://www.auto-report.net/gmpt05.html

Yeah, Dodge dealers are so confident in the sales potential of the new Magnum that they are practically forcing DC to bring the Charger out as a stablemate for the Magnum since Chrysler dealers have the 300 sedan all to themselves. Not that I'm trying to say the Magnum won't sell - I hope it does, but it looks like dealers are trying to hedge their bets for all contingencies.

As an aside to this, is the fact that up here above the 49th, Dodge sells primarily trucks. All of their US car offerings are sold under the Chrysler banner in Canada... excepting Viper and the Neon - which is now called SX 2.0 or SRT4 up here.
