Oh yes, the RWD cars are bad in Winter and the HEMI is a gas guzzler wanna be 10yr old LS1 technology. In the "North" these things are still a "Dodge".
They ever hear of "Winter Tires" up north there? I drove my IROC one winter with narrower Blizzaks @ 215/60/16's, it walked thru 5+ inches of snow while small trucks and fwd's were getting stuck.(100lbs of playsand in the hatch didn't hurt) Ofcourse, being Old-School, I started driving RWD's only winter or summer, on All-Season tires. Large, wide, low-profiles are a no-no...

My offer still stands. My little FWD Cavalier vs. all RWD comers.

Anybody that wants to end up in a ditch, let me know.

Yeah, I can drive my camaro and have in the winter/snow before too. But I find that we are HARDLY the norm. I would in now way shape or form let my wife drive my camaro on snow.

You'll find women do so much better with FWD and that is why FWD is here to stay...

My truck is rwd and I will wager it's gone through a lot worse conditions in 2wd then your little cavalier.

That's not the bet.

Here's the bet:

On a nice snowed upon and iced Michigan road in the dead of winter I and my trusty Cavalier can put you and your 2wd truck into a ditch, and drive away happily.

If I'm feeling nice, I'll give ya a ride to a Party Store where you can call for a tow truck.

I didn't have the pleasure of driving the camaro in the snow, but had with the mustang GT but ONLY with snow-tires and a 50-70lb saltbag in the trunk. It was VERY poised, almost AWD like. I could give it some throttle on slick surfaces and it would just grip and go. No sideways motion. I would put it against any Fwd car without snow-tires. I've driven Fwd with all-season, Rwd with summer-tires, Rwd with snow-tires, and 4x4's and the Rwd stang i had with snow-tires was almost right up there with my 4x4 Jeep.

Without snow tires (had 275 summer/performance tires on), i couldn't even make it up my own drive way. So the tires make a world of difference on Rwd. Certainly the worst drivetrain configuration to have in the snow when compared to Fwd and Awd, but they'll hold there own very well when given the proper rubber.

With the Blizzaks on my Z, I could pull your Cavalier out of the ditch and up one of those icey roads with great confidence. The Cav just don't have enough weight for serious Ice-Trekking. I grew up in the hills of Kentucky, we had Mountains there, Icey-Snowy and steep. I know how to drive in those conditions very well, and with those tires the Z drives like AWD, no side-steps, slips etc, just plows on thru.

Lets make it interesting. You come to the base of the mountain that I live on and try to make it out of my development when there is as little as 5 or 6 inches of snow. You think michigan has bad roads? I have driven them and prefer them to the road to my house in the winter! When a plow does get around to them they tear up the blacktop completely! In the 10 years I have lived there I have never been in a ditch or slid down the side of the mountian. Before I bought my first truck, I stayed home when it snowed with my FWD. Now I go to work when 99% of people dont even try.

The conditions were clearly spelled out.

Snow & ice. Michigan. Winter. You have to follow me at the same rate of speed.

Have a tow-truck on speed-dial.

PS - Any idea of how many RWD cars/trucks vs. FWD cars I see in the median of I-75 on my way to work on those special Michigan mornings? To those of you who live in Michigan, I suggest a test. Just count them sometime.
