2006 Factory Five Racing GTM

(from Factory Five Racing Press Release) The idea for the GTM is simple. Design a modern supercar and price it where an ordinary guy can afford. The only catch is that you have to provide your own running gear (GM based) and you have to build it yourself.

After more than three years of engineering and development work, we are ready to introduce the world to our vision of what an American-designed Supercar should be. The GTM is an American V-8 powered, mid-engined car with a composite body shell and an aluminum and steel tube frame chassis. The car uses GM Performance engine and suspension parts with four-corner coil-over shocks, huge brakes and a Porsche 911 Transaxle.

In the Factory Five tradition, the car is first and foremost a high performance car. The GTM is light and aerodynamic, with excellent weight distribution and precise race-car handling/braking derived from the Chevrolet Corvette C-5.

The car is engineered to be built as a chassis kit by a person at home. More than ten years of manufacturing the best engineered, safest, best selling and easiest to build kits in the world has made us uniquely capable of this challenge.

Lastly, no matter how well engineered the car is, and how good it looks, in order to succeed we knew we would have to ensure the car had modern comfort and control. The GTM has a large and quiet cockpit, good visibility and modern temperature controls. Items like A/C, power windows, and complete interior make sure the car isn’t limited to race track duty.

From the first design sketch to the completed production car the team has kept faithful to its charter to deliver a new All-American Supercar design. The GTM is an all-new design for us. It is 100% American designed and proudly made in the USA.

We humbly present our vision of The American Supercar.

Specs
Engine: 5.7 liter aluminum V8
Weight: 2250 lbs
Aspiration: natural
Torque: 375 lb-ft
HP: 350 (515 hp optional)
HP/Weight: 6.4 lbs per hp
HP/Liter: 61.4 hp per liter
1/4 mile: 11.6 seconds
0-62 mph: under 3.5 seconds
Damn, this thing is light. 2,250lbs. I like. It's supposed to be an affordable supercar, but you have to provide your own drivetrain and assembly kinda like their Cobra replica's for those familiar with them (that's what they're known for).

What is the price aside from buying your own drivetrain?

Damn that's tempting! 20K plus drive train and you get a sexy supercar...

Don't buy it until you've seen it in person. I have heard about there being bad lines on the car.

Sign me up. I would take that over a new z06. Almost Lotus Elise light. I could deal with bad lines for a car that would rip the doors off of virtually anything you run against. Throw a heads/cam 402 LS1 in there, and you have a 550 rwhp 2250lb car from hell.

Bad lines? It could have Hello Kitty embossed on every body panel and I wouldn't care. 2250 lbs and C5 powertrain, that thing would be a blast!

Re: 2006 Factory Five Racing GTM

My dad wants to drive 200mph. He has hit 177 in his stock C6 (A4 3.15 gear) and had an order in for a Z06. He was going to mod the Z to make it capable of going 200mph. The Z06 order got screwed up. Now I'm going to try to talk him into this car. We will be able to build it from the beginning to go 200mph safely at ORR and LSR events.

Oh yeah, he'll still be able to keep his C6

And I will be the first in line to get either car...

The car would look 2x better if you add just like $100 is plastic and mesh at a few spots.

Re: 2006 Factory Five Racing GTM

it's a little bland faced, but looks musclar and powerful.

the spec sheet is unbelievable... 2250lb?? that's amazing. if I had 20k to dispose of, I'd be all over that.

EDIT: but I wonder if it actually handles well. or what is this thing's pitfall? you gotta wonder, why is the Ford GT 3500+lb and $150K?
