2005 mustang haters....come on in
Re: 2005 mustang haters....come on in
that very impressive but lets not forget 4.30s and slicks reduce an ET considerably with a good driver.
even so getting a GT to a 12.4 for well under 2k makes me want to reconsider this car.
maybe not.

Of course the car went insanely faster on a steep gear and 4.30's. Intake/tune had little to do w/ it.
A GTO, F-body, older GT, etc. will get the same kinds of gains assuming the driveline will hold up.
That's the whole trick; getting a good 60', and a tire/gear combo that will let you hit max HP RPM at the end of the 1/4 in the 1:1 tranny gear. Gearing can make a huge difference, especially on the modular motors that make their power up high.

A few notes about that car...
1. They put in 4.30's because a set of 4.10's weren't on-hand.
2. The tune was a "canned" tune. It was flashed to the PCM using an SCT Xcalibrator. There was no dyno-tuning of the car. JMS wanted to see what the average owner could do without going through custom dyno tuning. The car made 294rwhp.\
3. The only weight removed was the jack/spare/trunk mat, however, the car was ran with 1/2 tank of gas. This pretty much negated the ~35-40lbs. of the removed items.
Pretty cool. That package is availabe for $995 (plus tires). The average backyard mechanic can put in everything (save gears, but some do) in an afternoon and be out racing that night.
Forget the trap speed, the car gets down the track.

I like the new Stang (though they shoulda kept the more aggressive, raked Boss302 inspired front that waqs on the concept) and Ford has to be applauded for not wussing out and killing the last remainaing pony car (hey GM!). But do these same mods (as applicable) to a stock LS1 Bird or Camaro (and let's no forget the design is several years old already) and the stang will be in last place again.
Hehe... I guess I should qualify that by saying 'assuming the f-bod's POS rear end will last long enough for a 12 second pass on drag radials'
.

With an SCT XCalibrator in hand to tame the JMS Silver Bullet, our in house custom tuning expert Monty "Magic Fingers" Johnson went to work.
At any rate...the car/mods are impressive. However, the fabulous ET came from the sixty foot, not an extreme amount of power...

I have an SCT XCalibrator for my 04 Cobra. It is capable of holding a stock tune and three (3) aftermarket tunes. Once they are in there, you cannot change variables - you can only load one of those three programs into the car's computer.
So, unless "Monte Johnson" brought his notebook computer (with SCT software and required cables) to make changes to the XCalibrator 'on-the-fly' (and that is possible, though not stated), then the "tunes" were indeed "canned".
