this also brings up the argument of why the cobra and the GT (gt40) would be so close in hp/tq but to far away in price range

I really don't know. Nothing's clear right now.

Again, I don't think today's Mustang strays from its roots at all. In 1964 the Mustang was an upright, sporty car based on a mid-size platform. Today it is all that plus it brings some performance goods to the table. If anything, the Mustangs that strayed were possibly Mustang II and the early fox-body cars (pretty small and homely IMO compared to all other Stangs.)
Help me I'm actually defending Mustangs!

BTW, when deciding whether Mustang or Camaro "strayed from it's roots" one has to understand that the cars, while rivals, have - different roots.

I said that the FWD concept (which the virtual public doesn't know aobut) was probably what hurt the Camaro's integrity the most. I didn't mean that it is what killed the fbody by any means...

It seems that every other week someone posts "See, the new GT will have 400 HP..............look!" but then it is STILL the same Mustang concept. I am putting my money on a GT with barely over 300 hp.

I guess nobody else read the last paragraph. It says that there will be a base model v-6, a gt and a cobra, and that the cobra is the one that will most likely have the supercharged engine.

Actually, the farthest Mustang Strayed from it's roots were the '71-'73 models. BTW, for those that say camaro never strayed from it's roots tell me this - which is closer to the car you could buy in 1967 - A 2002 Mustang or a 2002 Camaro?

There is no contest as to which car strayed away from it's roots, it was Camaro. Instead of becoming a stylish car that appealed to all buyers (say what you want about women buying them, the truth still is that more men bought them than f-bodies, and you can buy a 2003 Mustang!)
Once enthusiasts get their fill of a car, it's still going to have to sell to the general population.

The '71-'73 models seemed closer to Gran Torinos in size than the original Mustang.
