2005 Mustang GT: Way to go Chevy (NOT!)
2005 Mustang GT: Way to go Chevy (NOT!)
Was just looking at the write of the 2005 Mustang on MSN. Mustang GT with 400 Hp. WOW!! I'm mentioning this because there was a thread in here not long ago that mentioned this and some people thought that Hp number was to high. Well, apparently it's not. If the GT is 400 Hp, what's the Cobra going to be?
Any, you can read this at:

I never really liked the looks of the Mustangs except the original models, but this sucker looks sweet. Just might pick me up one when they come out.
Way to go Chevy. They make all kinds of different models with varying horsepower and they sale like crazy. Meanwhile, where is the camaro? Of course, part of problem is the so called "fan" base. Amazing how many people in here bristle at the suggestion of a small, supercharged V8 in a Camaro while another community embraces it. Guess that's why there are no Camaro's being made.

Fwd camaro concept? Killed the F-Body?
The mustang lived through that. The probe was supposed to be a mustang.
Anyway the concept GT has the 400hp supercharged engine, which they later go on to say will be put in the cobra.

I said that the FWD concept (which the virtual public doesn't know aobut) was probably what hurt the Camaro's integrity the most. I didn't mean that it is what killed the fbody by any means...

Camaro owners have higher expectations. Look at what the Mustang has been through since its birth, it's undergone a lot of different experiments which have aggitated the integrity of the vehicle. The F-body's worst moment came after the gas crisis and that FWD concept. Other than that, it died w/ its integrity, unlike how the Mustang lives. (Dramatic eh?)

I personally think Mustang has also been helped by the fact that it didn't have to live up to the "Closest Thing to a Vette Yet" comparison that Camaro was tagged with early in life. And no, I'm not blaming Corvette for Camaro's downfall.

You know, the F-Bods are one of the few muscle cars that can say they never lost touch with their roots. And unlike most of them, the F-Bods went out on top. It almost makes you want GM to leave it gone so theres no chance they will tarnish the name.

Help me I'm actually defending Mustangs!
It seems that every other week someone posts "See, the new GT will have 400 HP..............look!" but then it is STILL the same Mustang concept. I am putting my money on a GT with barely over 300 hp.

Again, I don't think today's Mustang strays from its roots at all. In 1964 the Mustang was an upright, sporty car based on a mid-size platform. Today it is all that plus it brings some performance goods to the table. If anything, the Mustangs that strayed were possibly Mustang II and the early fox-body cars (pretty small and homely IMO compared to all other Stangs.)

Actually, I pretty much quit being "brand loyal" a while back as doing so leaves you unable to enjoy some of the neat products offered by other manufacturers.
I would assume that when the next Camaro comes out, some of the mistakes made during the 4th gen's life cycle will serve as demonstrations of what not to do.
I am sure that the General is also keeping an eye on the 'Stang to see what their target needs to be, and what has and has not been working for them in the interlude.
Funny how the F has almost always been a follower - it wasn't until the mid 70's w/ the 2nd gen (after Ford redesigned the Mustang ) that they really showed their worth - and that was due to them being left alone !
(The Mustang II sold fairly well, considering that the smaller version popped out right in time for the oil shortage ! )
Now, if Ford would just make an auto available in the Cobra ...
I dunno when this "veil of silence" will be lifted regarding the F's - it would make things ( and future purchase decisions
) much easier knowing exactly how long we will be required to wait.
In the meantime, I'll continue driving - and paying monthly notes on
- my '99 SS.
