2005 GTO news

From www.Autoweek.com

DETROIT -- The 2005 Pontiac GTO will be restyled to include hood scoops, General Motors sources said.

The 2004 model GTO, which does not have hood scoops, has prompted GTO fans to write letters to GM asking the automaker to bring back the scoops that were on the original 1964 GTO. The scoops enhanced the car's performance image.

Hood scoops can help cool the engine or force air into the motor. It is unclear if the scoops will be functional or decorative.

The new GTO is a rear-wheel-drive high-performance coupe with a 5.7-liter engine derived from the Chevrolet Corvette. Pontiac officials say the car's acceleration, handling and braking will be the best ever in a GTO.

I hope they add an extra set of exhaust tips to the other side the car too. The scoops (functional?) will add an extra flare to an already sharp looking car. I only wish they would have done it for this year.

I guess it didnt take long for GM to hear all the people clammoring about the lack of hood scoops... and do something about it, too.

Now it is a REAL GTO.

It is very authentic, it finally lives up to its heritage! Nevermind V8 RWD and so on... as long as it has hood scoops, I will not bitch and complain that it is no GTO. For all I care, it could be a FWD V6 supercharged W-boby, as long as it's got hood scoops . I swear, we'd have less complaining if we had Grand Prix coupe converted to GTO, with hood scoops and such.... maybe even a dual exhaust tips and a fake tach on the hood...

Now I will not have to nag about Grand Prix styling. Those hood scoops surely set it apart.

to the hood scoops!

True. The originals weren't really functional.

All this whining will make this sleek, decent performance car into a retro waste of time and money.

"Cosmetically alter the exhaust with no performance benefit whatsoever! Move the tach to the hood! OK, now put some '67 lights on the front. And would it kill you to put a wood-grain pistol-grip shifter on this thing? Now let's talk about those gauges..."

I wonder if the hood will be on all GTOs or there will be a WS6 type option.

it will be interesting to see what ram air hood looks better, the SLP or the 2005 GTO.

They would be smart to make the hood scoops optional...

Not everyone dislikes a more clean-conservative styling..

from mid 1966 through the ram air cars in 1971 , functional hood scoops were an option.
