Base model commodore will get the HFV6 next year. It should cost around US$18k But the features that engine will have is unknown.

I would say that for the base Mustang, you will not see anymore than say 220-230 MAX. I'm sure the mustang fans would like to see the high side of that 275 in a base model but that won't happen.
You'll see the V6 S197 putting out around 250hp with the 3.5

My thoughts exactly. The rumors regarding the base 3.5L 2006 Mustangs have pointed at 250hp. That was the only Hp figure for the new 3.5L Mustang being thrown around.

I don't think it's definite, but i think it'll turn out to be a fairly accurate figure. We'll know come next year.

crYnOid, I was talking about the American market only. Only the more upscale cars will get the HFv6 while the rest of the lineup will get the pushrod 3.9L.

On the topic of the commodore, why is it that cars are cheaper overseas????. The 20k-30k Aussi cars just blow 20-30k North American cars out of the water in terms of features and content (not to mention performance and styling). $18k in American dollars would make that HFv6 commodore an excellent buy. You can't even get a nicely equipped 3.8L sedan for that here.

I'm thinking cost of living is a big factor. Most things seem to be more expensive in the states.

I'd put my money on a 240-250 HP base stang. It just makes sense. To limit the engine all the way down to 220 would be foolish. You could likely give up MPGs by reducing the efficiency of an engine so much, and a 250hp base stang would be very appealing to the masses.. Not as doggish as previous models, but not too powerful to scare the more docile customers away. And, if priced in the teens, as predicted, it would be a helluva buy.

For some reason, posting this reminded me of the 4 cyl F bods of the 80's. What a waste of sheet metal. Not sure I ever drove anything as slow as those cars.
