UPDATE:

Convertible Job 1.....Feb. '05.

 

I think many here gave this new Mustang too little credit for what Ford is doing. They are building a completely new car from the ground up, save the engine blocks. And they are building this at a new plant. To think there wouldn't be delays is being ignorant of how OEM's work. Ford is introducing the car as an 05 and it will be ready for 05 delivery so what really is the problem.

 

This new Ford plant... will it really help them improve build quality? I hope so. After looking at a 2 '03 Cobras on 2 different dealer lots, I was not impressed by the fitment quality of body panels - specifically, the hood and the cowl.. uneven gaps from one side of the car compared to the other side. E.g. On one car, the gap from the cowl to the bottom of the windshield area on the driver's side was big enough for me to get my pinky in there. On the passenger side it was about 1/3 the distance. Point is it was glaringly obvious to anyone who looks at build quality when buying a new car and gave me an overwhelming impression of rushed and slapshod assembly with sloppy production tolerances. Even in a mass produced car, this shouldn't be happening in this day and age. Honda and Toyota can get this right; so should Ford [and GM] if they want to compete and make all this expenditure in new platforms and factories worthwhile.

 

So when can a person expect to see more then a handful of Stangs on the showroom floor.

There sure as hell better be quality improvements. We are not talking of an ancient chassis anymore, and Mustang owners have lived with glaring faults (just as f-body owners have) because of their love for the car. I don't think they will be as tolerant with a new design having gaps not found on a civic and other flaws.

 

Your question cant be answered til initial production starts.And Im not speaking of JOB1...There are 3 different months that come up,April-June-August.I am leaning towards August myself.

 

Ford has a "safe launch" program that basically says they are going to park the 1st month's (or more) production until they are SURE there are no problems. Look at the F-150 launch as an example.

 

How long does it take for a car to leave the factory and arrive on the showroom floor?

Considering these are all new models, will it take longer since there will be extra levels of inspections on the first models comeing off the production line?

 

More new stuff.

And it appears that the GT's live rear axle will take a lesson from the 3rd and 4th gen F-car.

People are getting really excited in that thread over a fake rear filler cap. Retro has gone way too far when you have to fake it.
