quote from that link:

"The Infamous Mustang

The Indianapolis Plant will proudly continue to build products for the Mustang thus prolonging the years of history surrounding our plant with the Mustang. The expected volume is approximately 200,000 units per year and job 1 is forecasted for September 7th 2004. We expect the equipment to be on our floor by May 24th 2004. Our customer is Ford and we will supply AAI.

The Mustang Coupe is a proven performer. Some features include the 3.8L SPI V6, 16 inch P225/ 55R tires and Alloy wheels, SecuriLock passive anti-theft system, split fold down rear seat and more. MSRP @ $18,265*

The Mustang Convertible will open the road up to performance. Some features include the Power retractable convertible top with boot, speed control, six way power driver seat, color keyed floor mats and more. MSRP @ $23,965*

The Mustang GT Coupe you will own the road with the 4.6L SOHC V8 engine. Other features include a QuadraShock rear suspension and Traction Lock rear axle, 245/ 45ZR17 performance tires, fog lamps and more. MSRP @ $24,250*

The Mustang GT Convertible will allow you to feel the wind in your hair with 260 horses under the hood. Some features include the 4.6L SOHC V8 engine, QuadraShock rear suspension and Traction Lock rear axle, 245/ 45ZR17 performance tires, fog lamps and more. MSRP @ $28,555*

The Mustang Mach 1 is a modern interpretation of an American icon. Some features include a unique shaker hood scoop, 32 valve 4.6L DOHC V8 engine, MACH 460 sound system, "Comfort Weave" leather seating surfaces and more. MSRP @ $29,135*

The SVT Mustang Cobra is a 390 horse supercharged stampede of power. This car has venom running through its carburetor. Some features include a supercharged 32 valve 4.6L DOHC V8 engine, 6 speed manual transmission, MACH 460 sound system, Leather and suede seating surfaces and more. MSRP @ $38,405*

*Starting manufacturer's retail price, excluding taxes, title and registration fees. Optional equipment not included. "

IMHO

A $6000 difference between the base V8 coupe and the v6 coupe seems pretty drastic. I still don't believe that the base v6 will sell for only $18,000+ since $6000 is alot to pay for 2 more cylinders and some suspension and brake tuning. Unless Ford plans to load up every v6 with lots of expensive options to keep the price up in the low twenties and just use the $18,250 base price as a marketing gimic then I could understand that. I really think that by the time the initial hype wears down (in a year or two) and you could actually go to the dealer and buy a base v6 its price will be in the low twenties.

I think those MSRP's are for the current Mustang.

The thing the strikes me the most is the comment on...."expected volume, 200,000". If they're announcing that, I'd bet it's a conservative figure.

The most optimistic number I've heard for the next Camaro is 80-100,000.

Just to clear some things up.

Are they talking about the 05' or 04'?

The top paragraph is about the '05.

The different model descriptions are about the '04.

Yep. The initial word last winter was 2004 1/2 to begin production after the start of the year. In fact, Ford released info last fall (someone posted that link here) that the Mustang was to be on the streets in "18 months", which reinforced the April 2004 timeframe.

When I did my article, I was told there was no delay, and they expected production to start "in about a year", with the Cobra to follow in 2005 as a 2006 model.

Now it's September 2004.

I guess Ford's getting pretty overcautious about it's introductions. I can imagine the people responsible for ensuring smooth startups at plants are probally sticking around longer, and have their plate full (F150, the 500, & the Freestyle are all scheduled to come out over the next year), so maybe that has something to do with it. I'm as surprised as anyone.

That or something's gone wrong.

There was a major set back guionM.Ive said this many many times,Not to you just in general.
The designers and engineers were having problems with the greenhouse. And it did end up setting things back quite a bit.

200,000 Mustangs a year makes the new GTO with only 18,000 planned units each year seem tiny.

The possible delay of the 05 mustang until September/October of 2004 might help increase the demand for the new GTO for those who cant wait that long for a new Stang.

This was one of those times I went against my own rule, and trusted the bigwigs over other things I was hearing elsewhere. Should have hedged my posts with "according to Ford...".

Won't make that mistake again.

We are manufacturing the O/d button assembly for the 05 stang . We just recently sent out final samples . It hasnt been approved for production yet . The O/D script on it matches the bullit guages font .
