04 Pontiac Grand Prix
04 Pontiac Grand Prix
Lately I've seen a few new Grand Prix's on the road, and I'm impressed with the styling. Especially the quarter panels and trunk/spoiler treatment.
Is this just a re-skinned Impala? What chassis is this?

It uses the same W-car chassis as the Impala.....however, at it's last make over, GP got some chassis stiffening and suspension revisions. You'll probably see most of those improvements incorporated into the '06 Impala.
Like Z28 said, its built on a revamped W body chassis that will be shared with the next Impy and Monte. The Impy and Monte are still on the old W chassis.
The GTP has an upgraded supercharged 3.8 that makes 260hp and 280trq. The Comp G package offers more sporty options like paddle shifters.

I still don't like the styling nearly as much as the previous generation. The whole headlights-pulled-back-into-the-fender look just doesn't do it for me.
As for the interior, the rear seat has to be the absolute worst I've sat in in a long time. The cushion is so low to the floor that you might as well be sitting on a 2x6 on the sidewalk. Even a 20-minute trip is almost unbearable.

I like the new Grand Prix, but it doesn't have the same impact as the last ones did.
The interior (at least the front seat & instrament panel) are much better than the last in both looks and general feel. The exterior, though without a doubt, distinctive, seems to need a new front styling. It just looks incomplete.

The newest Grand Prix is nice. I see them everywhere down here, mostly GTP's too.
I agree with Guion on the front end, it could use some tweaking, but the rest of the car flows very well. Only other thing I would change are those exhaust tips. I dont mind a quad tip look, but the new Grand Prix's looks weird.

I think Pontiac should've used the Grand Am's exhaust tips on the new Grand Prix, they look more stylish. Only a minor peeve, though.

Well, I see on average 20-30 grand prix a day, so Im gunna say that people seem to like the GP more now then ever.

A lot of peeps are just not accustomed to stiffer seats.
I love my CompG and it's a great performance value.

BTW, I've been seeing the new Grand Prix's on the road for at least a year now. Is this really "Future Vehicle Discussion?"
I guess if we're talking about upgrades and future vehicles on the same platform it is...

Grand Prix sales are actually way up with the new generation. The backseats were fixed on all cars after November I beleive. As for peo;ple not liking it, I have had sevel F-bodies, and this is the first car I have owned where people have come up to me and asked "What car is that?" "It sure looks nice", and it happens quite a bit. I have also been asked if it is the new GTO a few times
...
The new interior is nice, but it is one of those things where the harder you look, the more you see things you don't like. For instance, the center stack trim piece around the radio expands under heat, and actually like humps up on the seam around the radio so that you can look in the seam and see the in the dash. Also, several owners have trouble with wobbly headlights...you hit a bump and you can see them shake.
Overall I love my car, but unfortunatly, it never lets me forget it is a GM car.
