You do realise you are a minority group when it comes to car styling? The general public prefer the sedate non offensive clean lines.

Like Big Al stated...why is the Camry and Accord the best sellers?
They are best sellers because they got fantastic QUALITY RATINGS.

As far as build quality issues, they have been known to be "cheap" cars. Cheap materials and shoddy workmanship. Do a search and you'll see what I am saying.

You know what the Aus car magazines biggest negative on Holden cars on quality??

The *American* sourced engines and powertrain.

The holden manaro is a POS DROPPED ON US BY Gm. It's a car that's been in AUstraillia for some years now. We just got thier updated version of the old model. I spit everytime I see that rebadged POS. It's just GM trying to make a quick buck, and from what I"ve seen around on the road...they aren't selling well...go figure. WHy pay 30K+ for an un exciting car that has a V8 in it...so what it's RWD and has leather seats? Big deal. 1. It's still a Pontiac...2. It's design is reminisant of the older Grand Prix's ...reguardless of how different YOU may think it is. The average car buyer can't differentiate the difference between the two. It was amazing how GM hyped up the MAnaro. showing spy photo's and hyping up the car as if it were "new" and not some rebadged austrailian crap. For it's price range there's FAAAARRRR!!! better cars out there. Hell an Ev08 is now 28K to own. I'd def pick one of those badboys up beofre a Manaro. The Manaro would be the last car on my list. GM just doesn't know what thier customers want...and that's why thier loosing money.But GM hasn't listened to the people since 1982...so what's the point anyway? atleast when they remade the 4th gens they "restyled" the front bumper, interior, and rear taillights. Ok, biggest problem I see with the argument is this..
GM didnt design the 04 GTO. It had no input outside of the nose. I bet that if GM came out and said they were gunna bring the GTO here, but in 3 years because they need to restyle it, everyone here would be like "oh great, we have to wait for a RWD coupe...why cant they just bring it here now!?!?!"

Is the GTO exciting and in your face like the TA was? No its not and for good reason because its not needed nor does that seem to be popular in the 30k+ sports sedan market. How many G35's, 350z, M3's, RX8's, etc... have hood scoops?
And you must own a Bently or a Rolls to say that the GTO's quality is poor. Even Car and Driver had to praise the interior. The quality of the car is probably the best outside of most Caddies. Where you got these quality problems is beyond me.

Its Monaro for the 20384308 billionth time. I dont see this as a failure as its in its 3rd month or a 3 year period? The Vibe actualy sells better then the Toyota Matrix. And the Aztek isnt a falure, just an ugly design. And hasnt listen to people since 82 huh?
I will refer you to a Hot Rod mag article about 2 years ago. It featured a Holden Ute SS. In the article, they said that anyone that liked this car should loby GM to bring it to the US. And loby they did. HR was swamped with letters saying "bring this car here!!" In the article, they also talked about the Monaro, Commodore, and the rest of the line up. It was a resounding, bring it here. And look what GM did!! But look what happend. Everyone now yells at GM. So much for listening. The word "backfire" comes to mind.

And if you cant figure out the difference between a GTO, GP, GA, Bonnie.... then you sir need glasses.

Saw my first GTO on the road yesterday...spotted it 1/4 mile away, after cleaning up drool i thought to myself "how has anyone mistaken it for any of the other pontiacs??" yes it has the symbol, but thats where the comparisons ended. I think a lot of individuals have heard that "it looks like a GP or GA" so they just bad mouth it, even though they most likely haven't seen one.

Do you have any problem picking out the difference in the Z28, Cavalier, and Monte Carlo? No. Because they are ALL completely different. Thats what it's all about.

And to say that HR magazine's request to "lobby" for the car is a complete joke. This wasn't about GM bringing something to the people. This was about GM trying to convince people they have something "new and fresh" all the while shoving the GTO name down people's throats. Hell, even Volkswagon did a better job being true to the name "Beetle" when they brought out the new bug. They realized people LIKED THE DESIGN OF THE ORIGINAL and wanted to stay true to the design yet updated too.
I would have much rather waited for a FRESH design of the GTO instead of a rebadged plain Jane Monaro.

Typical responses from the follwers at this site. ANytiem someone dissagrees with one persons opinion it's right to childish insults.

GM marketed the car...people don't care for it much...it's not selling very well... The End.

Marking up the sticker price is only going to guarantee it will sell less. So far the only GTO's that have actually really been selling were the pre-orders from the many enthusiest who actually thought they were getting something new and exciting...rather than some rebadged POS....the end.

The 5th gen forum ...I hate comming here...like having a mind of your own isn't important here.

Sorry to say but some of us have our own taste...not everyone likes the same thing... Go figure.

The funny part about this is the fact the 5th Gen. forum is for a car that hasn't been made yet (and maybe never will). The whole group talks about what the next Firebird/Camaro SHOULD BE yet come in here and say what the GTO should have been and get bashed for your opinion.

My lil a** 305 has enough kick to kick a SVT's **** all the way down MLK Blvd. here in Atlanta. And since you know so much about me and my real experience (while yours seems to be gained by sittin on the sidelines) Explain how my car can do that 2 other people in the car with me? Let me show you some so you will learn something today..........

1) When we launched, it was a fair launch (no jumping the line)
2) For bigger horsepower cars , I ratchet the gears from 1st on up
3) I waited until 4100 rpm to go to second, when i did the whole car almost lost it going sideways but I got the neeeded kick in the shift
4) He was on my door (but behind my door), when I heard him trying to play catch up. I waited until 3700 rpm to go to 3rd and from there I got a huge powerband boost and held the lead for more than a 1/4 mile.

Ya see I know how to get speed out of a car. Just because I have a 305 does'nt mean it does'nt have the same stroke as a 350 if not quicker stroke. My trans. Is a B&M 350 Turbo that I ordered from Summit. I also had heavy duty gears (all three) installed with a B&M stage 2 shift kit. But I've raced alot more than that. If you want to know about me either ask like man (not like some lil high school kid) or go to my pages and READ all the info on my cars, friends cars (which are ALL running very strong), and even my racing page where i update my races in detail. Have'nt updated in a while but I still race, just dont have to write them up as i used to. I do way more than you think on daily basis.

Aside from that, I've been being real cool about not goin off and cussin some of you bi***'s out. This is the forums If you want to get dirty go to my G-books (either one) and see what the f**K I really write. Cause I'm seeing some comments that deserve a good slap in ya Mo****n mouth. I'm real, realer than some of you broke haters with dreams of being cool someday!!!! Even on the first page, dude admits to seein me (and my 2000 camaro) there AND HE DOES'NT EVEN KNOW ME so what I have prove something to yall? NO!!!!! Tell camaroz28.com to fix the bug in the edit fields and I'll update enough pics to shut the whole board up.

It comes down to one thing, this started as a review (just a simple review) about the cars I drove on Sat and turned in to some bull****. I can guarantee you if you saw in the street or at a car show you would'nt be so quick to speak to me like that. I really hate to have say this but "your" kind freezes up when we come around (just being real). I see it on a daily basis and live it on a daily basis. I saw it at the car show until I started talking and they realized i knew what I was talking about. We were talking driving techniques while you would probably bi*** about the color of the dashboard.

Yall should'nt have started this, cause when I get mad i start tellin the truth about people. Yea I race and love to do it. it's my only hobby and one of the things I am good at. thats why I dont come to the lounge forums, some of you are just plain stupid. So before you guys start ranting and raving about some words in a thread, think about this.... ya would'nt be so bold if ya were'nt hiding behind the PC, now would you?

Get back to the business of hooking up camaro's, what are you really here for???????????????????

I disagree sure, but the childness I see is in calling a car you've most likely never driven, ridden in or maybe still haven't seen in person yet as a "POS"...why? Because you don't like the styling? Cars are classified as POS's because of their build quality, not how they look.

I think we welcome all types of opinions here as long as they are reasonably thought out and well-spoken....anyhow, thanks for stopping by!

I've seen the GTO plenty...it's been sitting at the dealer for the past 3 months..next to the rest of the GTO fleet. AS for driving it..I don't think it make much of a difference. I own a modified Camaro...don't think I'd be amazed that much by it. You people just speak out randomly bashing nayone who dissagrees with what you call holy. Personally I couldn't give 2 turds less. My opinion is my opinion. Don't care if the thing ran low 9's and had a TT V12 in it.... it's still a Manaro. A poor atempt at the "luxury" car market under the name of a car "GTO" that was orginially designed to be anti-Luxurious... so how does the name GTO even fit in the picture? un hum yeah...whatever...peace 5th gen forum!

Actually, 1976 was the last year that the 455 was offered in the Trans Am. In the 1978 Trans Am the only available engines were the L78 Pontiac 400 (180 horse), W72 Pontiac 400 (220 horse) or an Olds 403 (185 horse - California and "high altitude" regions). 1978 W72s do sound great, though as they have no mufflers and dual resonators instead (a setup now found on the Neon SRT/4, oddly enough).

finally!i read this whole goofy thread to see if anyone caught that!2nd gen birds rule!!
since this thread has derailed,did anyone see the sopranos sunday night?chris and doogie howser's old friend were in a 4th gen camaro with IROC decals on the door pretty car other than that....and what happened to the new V8 bonneville on the show???they showed it once and it disappeared!!c'mon pontiac,lobby for more screen time!!!
