Post '03 Cobra 12.23@115.23 at Norwalk

I am making this post because of all the complaining about the Cobra that has been going on. Seems as though there are those who want to believe that the poor times showing up so far are as good as it is going to get.

His only mods are a Lightning pulley, and Lightning conical filter. This is on stock radials that have been aired down slightly.

This is the same gentleman who ran the 12.9@117. He is learning how to drive the car (gosh what a concept..... you mean he wasn't an NHRA driver from the get go???)

This is an actual owner, and not a magazine. Thus the excuse about the car being a ringer does not apply.

Pretty good if you ask me.

Oops, made a boo boo in the title. Is supposed to be 12.28. Sorry.

I didn't realize there were that many people here "complaining" That's a kick butt time for only two mods.

I think most of us have accepted the fact that the '03 Cobra is "for real". We're all just in the same boat you Ford guys were in for years, the "wait 'till the new Camaro" boat

Nice run to say the least. Makes me think his first run was STOCK I presume and the speed was 111 not 117 as a few have speculated since the glare kinda got in the way of the last number. That would explain how with the L's pulley and A/F would raise the speed by 4mph with break in too.

How much power does an Lightning pulley add? how much boost?

Personally I think the 03 CObra is about .5 sec faster than a LS1. Stock vs stock or mod for mod. If he adds slicks he could hit 11's.

Actually, the complaining that made me post was on the Kill board. However, this was not a kill, thus I didn't feel it was right to post this over there.

There are more cool people here than on LS1.com, that is for sure.

It is funny, they continue to complain that Mustangers are all hung up on these cars, and 9 out of 10 posts about them, on their boards, are by Camaro owners.

I will cross my fingers for you on a 5th gen Camaro.

Actually, it was 117..... he posted it. Yes it did have the mods on. He just did not know how to drive the car. Still isn't real good, but is getting better.

I believe the Lightning pulley registers 12.5psi on the stock boost guage. However, this same guage should probably register 10psi stock..... the same as it does on the Lightning.

There's already a few 03 Cobra's hitting the 11's with just slicks as a mod.

Just saw one at my local dealership. Very very nice and refined. It's got that nice semi luxury look to it, but also a look of "I;m gonna kick yo azz!" ***** out aggression.

It's a cobra. we're not in the same boat as the ford boys were in. GT are still slow in comparison. It's just the aurguement has changed.

Before the ford boys would say all I need to do is this and I'll be faster than a Z28. Well ok.

Don't get me wrong. The 03Cobra is a nice fast car. It's good that ford stepped up. But the only car that can race in the same class as a Z28 is the GT. Lossing again. Sure when some GM boys throw on a blower to race in the same class, It's great stuff, win or lose.

It's not a bad thing if your NA car gets beat by a blown car. It has more stuff(ie Blower) It's a sweet set up(03 cobra). I think inside ford they may have thought about beating the LS1. Maybe even tried hard. But in the end, the path that they went down in 96 with the 4.6 limited them to a blower in 03. If not then they would still get smashed NA. To get a NA cobra from the factory to beat a LS1 would be more expense then throwing on a blower they can buy in bulk.

It's like a V8(you) beating me(V6)(both NA no power adder) and you saying HA! My car is faster then yours. I'd say well duhhh, it should be. Could more stuff(2 more cydrs) have something to do with it.

I will admit that the 03 cobra is the biggest bang for the buck nowadays. Only if you can buy it for $35,000. A couple grand more than that, you could easily drop either a single or a twin turbo setup for a LS1 and kill 03 cobras all day.

Simply installing slicks will not shave off .7 seconds of your ET. Those cars should have more than just slicks (like exhaust / pulley).

Your estimate sounds right, but don't forget that the slicks for the cobra are not only helping it launch a hell of a lot better and much much quicker, but the slicks are also helping the car stay planted on the track as it is tearing rubber all the way down. I've already heard through the horses mouth that a couple people have had an extremely hard time keeping the rear to the ground down the track locally.

Now whether this is all true or not, I cannot say. But I do find it believeable.
