‘Scrap’ incentive mooted to boost car sales

Hotrods and Classics aren't solely the province of a bunch of old rich white guys (despite what J/B wants people to believe) from the 50's, 60's, and 70's, those cars are steadily becoming the dusenbergs, and 250 GTOs of their day and increasingly disconnted from the average guy (or kid) out there, ergo what people consider nothing more than junk today becomes the hotroding material and classics of tomorrow.

Think of all the Plymouth Neons, Toyota Camrys, Dodge Caravans, and old Ford F-150 that future generations won't be able to mod.
I'm against this idea, but it would make a lot more sense than giving Billions $ away in bail outs and unpayable loans.

how many clean chevy performance cars from the 80's would fall victim. how many camaros, caprices, chevy trucks, monte carlos and other really great cars would get scrapped just to collect more than the car is worth in value. im saying this shouldnt be allowed to happen. classic car fans should be rioting in the street if this every happens. if these people had it their way no one would ever know the joy of owning a v8. even a 305 is entertaining.

Why would it be a bad idea? I'm sure there would be a few Aztecs lying around that would approach 9 years since birth.
Anyway, who would scrap a potential classic? The cupboard is quite bare when you look back the past 9 years for instant classics at GM. I dare say the scrap idea would help GM more than it would peeve the enthusiasts.

Here's an idea to make this program more helpful to the domestics: make it a rule that you have to trade your rustbucket in for the exact same brand (with perhaps special dispensation for Olds, Plymouth, Eagle, et al). Since GM had a much higher marketshare back then, they would reap more of the potential trade-ins
