**2005 Mustang 13.5@102**

http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=512372

>>I just talked with a friend of mine in LA who races out there and he just got off the track a little bit ago. Iit was his first with the GT and he ran a 13.5@102 with a manual I asked him what he did exactly and he said this: The power drops slightly at about 5300-5400 rpm so when he was taking it all the way up to 6K rpm before shifting, it slowed him down as he ran a couple 13.8@100. When he ran a 3rd time, he shifted right about 5400 rpm in each gear to keep it in its powerband and gave slight gas into 2nd as well as 3rd which shaved .3 seconds off his time. That must be why the manual ran 13.6 in that MT test, it must shift before 6K which keeps it in the powerband. He has had it since Monday so he has had some time to play around with it, I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone got used to it. <<

Thats how we used to get the best times out of our L98 C4 Corvettes. This thing really is a third gen Camaro with a retro Mustang body and much improved interior/chassis.

Re: **2005 Mustang 13.5@102**

Im sure that 13.50s to 13.80s will be the norm for this car. The 05 GT has a pretty flat power curve for a 4.6L mod motor. I guess Fords VVT or whatever they call it is working.

I know you guys love to bash the new stang and there are some pretty good reasons. But in the end this is ther ONLY RWD V8 car for under 30k. Heck you can get one for 25K. I know your going to say the GTO has rebates but so will these in a year and the 05 GTO wont have rebates for a year.

I have to say that I like the solid rear axle. it makes for a fun drive. Maybe when my wife is sick of it Ill have a new drag car project.

?!?!

It might have a somewhat similar style suspension setup, it might have increased dimensions, it might have a similar windshield rake and interior positioning, it might have angular designing, (although weird/retro) a 3 spoke steering wheel, and even a lower revving engine, (OK, maybe they have studied Third Gens and taken notes LOL) but that thing is no IROC-Z. Especially with those unimpressive skidpads and lousy aerodynamics.

At first I thought you were talking bad about the 05 MUSTANG.

Exactly.

I actually expected somebody to post something like that after the GTO members posted the videos of the 14 second mustang runs on their site. It's an obvious lie.

This whole "My friend said...." or "My friend saw this..." with no proof to back up what they're saying is lame.

That must be why the manual ran 13.6 in that MT test, it must shift before 6K which keeps it in the powerband. He has had it since Monday so he has had some time to play around with it, I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone got used to it. <<
SFERRV6: Your theory and whomever posted that thread's theory is absolutely wrong. First of all, the car they tested was an automatic, not a manual.

Secondly, the car they tested ran right through 6000rpm and shifted just shy of the 6200rpm mark when they managed that 13.6 run. It did not shift before 6k to stay in it's power band.

Quoted from the MT article I have right in front of me:

"The new engine revs quickly past the indicated 6000-rpm redline and shifts just shy of the "real" 6200 limit."

Why would you shift early @ 5400 if it's gonna result in forcing you to shift into 4th? It's common knowledge now that the new stangs are turds in 4th and 5th gear.

There is even more proof that he's full of it when I look at the dyno numbers. From 5400k to 6200k, the curve is relatively fast, staying right around it's peak power the whole time (267-260 rwhp), wouldn't that make it the ideal power band range? Everything below 5400k is a rather steep curve downward.

Why would you shift right at 5400rpm, just when it reaches the beginning of it's ideal power band?

Kind of funny how when we get actual video's, all the Mustang guys come in and say but yet they come in here all the time with the "My friends friends sisters cousins internet friend just ran this..." and expect us to believe that over the solid evidence

Re: **2005 Mustang 13.5@102**

Sounds about right to me, slower than an LS1, about as quick as a Mach 1.

What's the stink about? It's a decent time for what the car is... fairly porky (LS1 F-cars were fairly porky too, so that's not a shot at them... the Stang faithful can relax), 300ish horsepower, geared to make up for the 4.6's lack of low end.

Reminds me of the time I ran a Bullit about 4 times in a row one night (back when I was stock). We'd come out of the hole, he'd stay with me through 2nd and then I'd walk on past. That was indicative of the gearing differences right there... they can keep up out of the hole and through 2nd, and then the LS1 cars would walk on by.

Kinda like when a Motortrend article says the 05 does 0-60 in 5.1sec and the 1/4mile in 13.6sec.

Of course, one video of one guy running his mustang vs. a GTO better represents the 05's capabilities than a rag that "happens" to get a good time.
