What Exactly Does The Panhard Bar Do?

Could someone explain what the panhard bar does ?
My 95 Z feels like the rearend is twisting as I let out on the clutch and take off. It "feels" more on the right rear, as if the suspension is giving and allowing the rearend to roll.
I have installed new Bilstein shocks and this did not make any difference.

Please Help Anyone,

Thank You,
Michael

The panhard rod keeps your rearend centered on the car. The stock bar can have considerable flex (along with the bushings) and allow the axle to move from side to side. It's hard to tell if that's what your experiencing or not. I had one break on me before and it's not something you want to happen at speed!! If your car has been lowered it's possible that the axle is off center. Some people see more change than others and generally it's not alot but if you run 11" wide wheels it can become an issue.

I just noticed you're in Atlanta too!!

Thank's for the reply!!!
It's not side to side, it feels more like the rearend is twisting under torque.

The most likely point of failure is the lower control arm bushings. If that's not it try checking the bushing at the front of the torque arm by the tranny mount. Check that to btw. It could also be loose bolts where the toreque arm joins the rear end. It's rare on a car that isn't heavily modded but I've seen broken torque arms too. That's about the only parts that could let the rear end twist under load.

I agree, With that many miles on the car, the LCA bushing are most likely bad. Good time to up grade to poly?

i noticed that you said it felt like your car was twistin to the right rear...well that is how it is on every rear wheel drive car....everycar goes back and to the right...that is why so people put just one airbag under the right rear to stop that twist...but it is nothing wrong with your panhard bar that is making your car do that
