tie rod end???

I just got my formula a couple months ago and put it up till the spring a few days after I got it, but it was pulling to the left a little. When I took the wheels off to do the brakes, i noticed the wheel could move an inch or two to each side. Would this be a tie rod end going bad, because on sharp turns that side of the cars kind of lifts up a little every time the tire rotates. It seemed like the tie rod end was stripped, because the joint moved freely. Any idea how much this would cost to fix. I know the guys kid from school, so I should get a somewhat good deal.

If the tie rod end rotates loosely on the threads of the rod coming from the steering rack and cannot be tightned down, then it is probably stripped.

If you have alot of wheel play from side to side and the steering wheel does not move, then your steering rack is probably worn.

If the play is in the tie-rod ball joint, then that is obviously worn.

Tie rod ends should be pretty cheap. I don't know about steering racks. My steering rack is still very tight at 82000 miles, but I am about to replace my tie-rod ends, due to my use of aftermarket control arms with spherical bearings and moly rod ends (sharp impacts on street use). I already upgraded control arm ball joints as part of that swap.

Also..... if you have play make sure the play isn't in your hubs. I recently had a hub fail at the track an the wheel had play all the way around.

I'm almost positive its in the tie rod ball joint, so it shouldn't cost much to fix
