Post specific Coil-over setup questions

the set up i was thinking...
QA1 12 way adj. front coilovers with 1LE springs
QA1 adj. rear shocks

QUESTIONS:
how will the 1LE springs work w/ the QA1's?

this will make the FRONT ride height adjustable correct??

is there a way to make the rear height adjustable?...not lowered...adjustable?

i am looking at this setup cause i already have the springs, but i want to upgrade the shocks, adj coilovers seem nice, i'd like to lower the car for certain conditions (cruzing and shows) but keep stock height for daily use, and i'd also like the adjustment for occasional track use...

WHAT YOU FOLKS THINK?

What is QA1?

If you change front ride height, you need to get it realigned.

1LE springs are totally not compatible with any Coil Overs I know of. It would be silly to run those as they are heavy and expensive. Coil over springs are light and cheap.

Maybe you should look into a package from LG or Global west instead of risking a setup that won't work.
Since you alreay have 1LE springs, why not get 1LE shocks and swaybars that match them? Those are Koni SA Single Adj. At least that way you'll have a setup that will work together.

If saving money is the objective, I'm not the person to ask.

I would skip the coil overs in your case. You want to use the 1le springs and rightly so. They work well. I would go with front Koni SA's they have a seat that lets you mount the spring 3/4" lower than stock. Then just remove the rear rubber isolator in back. Match that with a 35mm front bar and that would be a very good combo. You could save money by picking up a set of Bilsteins for the rear.
Coil overs are over rated for most people. The car needs to be aligned when hight is changed. And its not that easy anyhow. I went with coil overs for weight jacking and to swap srings easily

here is the kit i was looking at and it has a good write up with it...
http://www.bmrfabrication.com/F-body....htm#qa1shocks

i was considering this over my previous idea for a setup:
Bilstiens (not SS ones, the heavy ones), 1LE springs combinned with the 32/21mm bars and lca and phb that i already have.

was considering the QA1's due to the adjustability for the few times i DO go to the drag strip, and for the few times i may autoX it, AND for the ride height adjust ment for cruzing and shows.

i was under the impression with this type of system you didn't need to realign after changing height...if you do...that would be my deciding factor to not get them

ummmm, those "QA1" are HAL shocks. Not usually considered good for Autcross/Roadrace because they are too soft even at stiffest settings.

The Koni/Bilstein/1LE & bars setup suggested above would be real good comparitively.

Yes, if you lower it temporarily, you'll need to get it realigned each time you change it. You can adjust shock stiffness without needing to change alignment, but wheen you change height, it changes the alignment. It might look cool changing it, but the cost of alignments every 2 weeks would kill you.

thanks guys...you pretty much answered my questions

and as far as i know...a few months ago..HAL changed it's name to QA1...that's why in summit and jegs you don't see HAL shocks anymore...all listed as QA1...

who knows...

although on my old iroc i had the alignment done at Tire Kingdom, paid $20 extra for 3 years of free alignment...that almost makes it worth it...take it in to have it realigned every other week...they would hate you for it...but who cares...

Why do you NEED to do an alignment afterwards? I have my car set up w/ max negative camber. If I were to raise it, yes I will loose some, but getting it re-aligned Im not going to get it back. Is the caster the problem?

When you change the camber, you change the toe - a lot.

ok, I have 0 toe right now w/ about -1.5 camber. So if I raise my car (its a little low and feels like its hitting the stops) I will loose camber, and probably gain toe in? (or out?)

When I lowered my car my alignment printout showed a lot more toe out than before I changed springs.
