Road racing with hals and other suspension setup ?s
Road racing with hals and other suspension setup ?s
i was looking into doing some road racing and autocrossing when the weather warms up over here. I'm not going to go all out here so I don't really need an all out suspension and since I do drag race a bit I'd like to keep m suspension flexible. Only current suspension mods are stb, boxed lca with polies, torque arm and hals up front. My question is are the hals adequate for road racing? Also I've heard of binding with the poly mounts is this something I have to worry about? Other mods I was thinking bmr sway bars, panhard bar, some sort of rear shock/spring setup need help choosing which. Also my car is a hardtop would it benefit as much from sfcs or is this something I dont have to worry about. I'd like to know what other people out there are running and if there anything I'm missing or if theres a better product than listed.
Thanks brad

The big question is what sanctioning body will you be with. Midwestern Council, SCCA, NASA? They will have rules you'll need to follow regarding allowable mods. I am assuming that by road racing you mean wheel to wheel. I have a MC rule book so I can help you with that if you're interested.
I'll try to help with a couple of your questions:
Hals... I don't have them, but a buddy does and they seem to work awesome. He does have them on al 4's though. He has been to the track numberous times over the last year and had great success.
SFC's.... I have a hard top and have not added them. I probably will as I think they will be beneficial....just not high on my priority list and not as important as a T-top car.
LCA's... If you have poly on both the axle and the frame, then you may experiece some binding. People seem to disagree on the severity of this. I have poly at the axle and rubber at the axle and I think they work great. The best of course is heim joints.
Swaybar's.... As long as you do your research you will probably benefit and like this upgrade.
Before I started doing track days.... I just bought the lowest price items and now realize that you should buy more purpose built pieces.
My suggestion to you is to contact someone like LG Motorsports for assistance with road racing setups. Lou and Louis are great people and great to work with and definitely know F-body road racing setups. They have helped me very much at the track.
There is no perfect setup for all forms of driving... you will have to compromise in certain areas to be better in others.
