Cool Need autocrossing advice please

My dad has recently shown an interest in buying a Z06 and autocrossing it. Just to clear up any questions, the car will be streetable, with probably only a couple grand worth of mods. I am trying as hard as i can to talk my dad into this (I am 18 and know that it will be awhile before i will be able to get an Fbody). I want to know what some of you guys' experiences have been as far as racing clubs, "country clubs" (I dont really know what those are but have heard about it from a few friends) and autocrossing in general. Aside from the car, what is the best way to go as far as what club or association to get involved in?? I looked up some info about one autocross "country club" on the net and it is pretty pricey, but is it worth it?? and FYI i live in DFW

Go with your local SCCA for autocross ( http://www.scca.org/ ) . Go with NASA for open track dates ( http://www.nasaproracing.com/ ) .

Here is some advice from a local, fast and experienced driver. A Z06 should be driver smoothly. Hanging the car out is not good for the Z06.

I agree. Either find an SCCA club or another club that follows the SCCA format pretty closely. The safety regulations are the most important thing I would consider when joining a club. If it's a top notch, quality, organized group, you'll have a blast. Most definately more fun than a less organized club. The events will run a lot smoother and you'll be safer out on the course.

Don't start off thinking you're gonna beat the pants off averybody just because you have a Z06 with a couple grand worth of mods either. Keep your expectations in check for at least the first few months. Learn all you can. Listen to the experienced drivers. In my club everybody tries to help the newer people improve. We have a novice instructor and all new drivers are required to walk the course and take instruction from him for the first 3 events they run at.

Good luck. I hope you find a good club to join up with.

Living in DFW, you have a load of options! And the Z06 doesn't need many mods the be a lethal autox car. A second set of stock wheels with Kuhmo V700 or Hoosier AS303 tires would be a great start! Check out these sites for local autox/RR info.

Autox
SCCA
Equipe Rapid
BMW Club
Porches Club

Open track events
Motorsport Ranch - This is a "country club" track, you do not have to be a member to run with the following groups
The Drivers Edge
BMW Club
NASA

Basically, there is an autox or track event 3-4 weekends a month 10-11 months a year in DFW.

The next SCCA event is November 3 at Pennington Field in Bedford. Next one after that is November 9 with Equipe Rapid, and another November 10, both at Mineral Wells. There is also a BMW Club event at Mineral Wells November 2 (very fun group to race with). I won't be at the events on the second or ninth as I have class on Saturdays.
