Magnetic shocks

Barring cost, would the magnetic shocks on the new Corvette's and also sold by Carrera be the superior choice?

Here's the link to Carrera's Magneshock

Jim,

Barring cost including development time? From a practical standpoint of buying the shocks with the controllers that Carrera provides (I assume you're talking about the Gen 1's, since their site doesn't list the Gen 2's as available yet), you might as well just buy Koni SA's. The Carrera Gen 1 shocks are single adjustable, but the adjust rebound and compression at the same time. Really the only benefit for the end-user is in-car adjustability (quickly), and that can be mitigated with servos on other brands of shocks.

With development time, yes, the Carrera's would be a much better choice. Their range of damping is limited, but with proper control algorithms the end result can be light-years ahead of what a passive suspension system can do. I'm currently writing up a research proposal to do this very thing, so we'll see...

Hope that helps,
Dan

If anyone is interested, the proposal is here:

It's half-written for class and half-written as a formal deal. If anyone has any sponsorship money they can throw my way...
