I'll try this forum

I already tried tech but didn't get much response there.

I removed the isolators above my rear lowering springs. I like the way it looks now with more drop but the rearend feels loose or sways a bit on bumps.

For you out there who have done this, did you get the same results? I just want to know if this is an unsafe condition or something I should just get use to.

I used a heater hose and pulled it around the top coil. Should I use thicker hose or double up on hoses?

Thanks

As long as your panhard bar is still connected you shouldn't have any "sway". Having stiffer springs in the rear will make the car more 'loose' in hard cornering than the stock springs. Also your lower control arms and torque arm are no longer at the optimum angles if the car is lower than before. An adjustable torque arm and LCA relocation brackets will resolve that though. But that's a little extreme if you're not going to be driving the car competatively.

*** edit***
I reread and saw you said it was happening over bumps. Your phb might not be parallel to the ground any more causing a little side to side movement over bumps. I'm not aware of a relocation bracket for a phb though.

Does it only do it over bumps? Unbalanced Engineering makes PHR relocation brackets, but those are for lowering the center of gravity, and not fixing alignment issues. I'd fist start by installing LCA relocation brackets (since you need those anyway), and checking to make sure all of your suspension connections are nice and tight.

Yeah, it seems to just happen over bumps. All I know is that, removing those rear isolators left a relatively sizeable void. I was just concerned with whether or not that is unsafe. Since I know others have removed that piece I was curious as to whether or not they experienced the same loose feeling.

As far as reloc brackets are concerned, I have some welded onto my rearend. However, I can't use them because whoever had the rearend before me placed the brackets at angle towards the rear so the lca won't line up with it. I'm hoping some adjustable brackets will fit it to avoid having to remove the welds.

Thanks for the replies.

Did you just replace the springs for both front and rear? I'm assuming your swar bars and shocks are stock. If so, your springs are overpowering your shocks. I don't know the spring rate for the springs you have but I can tell you the stock shocks are inadequate for the stock springs. Anything stiffer will not be right.

I know guys running F-Bodies that have never changed PHR or LCA's and can run circles (National Champion caliber drivers) around most everyone driving a F-Body. That's not to say that they can't make a difference, but rarely will they fix the kind of problems you're describing here. My car is lowered in the rear and I do have an adjustable PHR but it's really only to prevent excessive side to side bushing movement which makes the axle move from side to side. But it doesn't help ANYTHING in terms of roll or sway. The three primary components that control roll are sway bars, springs and shocks and of those, the stock shocks are usually the biggest problem.

Yeah, I'm using slp take off shocks with the DMS springs. I never really felt "looseness" until I removed the rubber isolators from the rear the other day. I'd really like some new shocks but the good ones cost some good money. I also felt like the take off shocks, since relatively new, would hold up fine with the lowering springs. Now that you mention that, it does seem as though the sway from bumps would be caused by the shocks. I'll have to wait regardless, for any new shocks. I also think I'll leave the rubber isolators out.

Thanks bruecksteve
