Has anyone put 275's on there 11" rims
I don't have the cash to put 315's on this thing again. And the choice of tires kinda sucks. Has anyone done this, Does it look stupid? Does the car handle diffrently in the corners?

Well I was hoping to do this:
switch my front tires (17x9.5 AFS), that I used in my last HPDE and put them in the rear(17x11 AFS), Then buy a new set of front tires. This is only to run the event. Currently I have Nitto DR 's on the back that are only half gone, but I can't run the HPDE with them on.
Cash is the problem
And my new tranny bill

Why can't you run the HPDE on the 315 Nitto's? I have two friends that run 315 Nitto's all around. One is an autocrosser and one attends a number of HPDE's. Both love the tires, and are very fast.
Also, mitchntx has them on all 4 corners of his car, but has not raced on them yet. I have the DR's mounted, but have yet to change the studs and bolt them on the car.
If you want to buy 2 tires for the front, I would suggest 275/40/17 Nitto 555RII's up front and run the 315 Nitto DR's out back. Yet another friend runs this setup and is very fast with it.

I was told last year, that I could not run on them because of speeds reached and tire temp, being a DR they yadda yadda.....
I rented some tires and rims off a friend for $50 for the 2 day event.
If they had the Nitto NT555R II Extreme's in 315 I would get them, but I was told you can't run the DR's. Unless someone could give me a good explination?

I did find this on the nitto web page.
http://www.nittotire.com/mainframe.asp In the tire tech.
The NT555R features a sticky compound with broad shoulder tread blocks that allow it to handle well in autocross and road racing applications. An independent magazine test confirmed that the NT555R Drag Radials can be used effectively on the autocross course.
The biggest issue is overheating the tire. In autocross racing there are generally cool down periods between laps. However, in a road race the brakes are spread farther apart, and speeds are generally higher. This increases the chances of overheating the tire, which results in a loss in performance, and possibly damage to the tire.
We are currently in the process of developing a racing tire specifically for autocross-style applications. Please check our web site often for the latest news on Nitto products.
So I'm still not sure.

Porsche does this on thier GT race cars, and I readily assume others follow a similar rule or close. I haven't seen it done on a street car though, usually the semi street-race cars that I've seen would be about in the middle of suggested wheel size and tire combo (as for people with racing experience, not Joe Regular). So 275 on a 10" and so on. So it can be done, or look for a 285/295 or wait another couple weeks for the dough?
