Question Brake Setup Comparison

I'm looking into getting better brakes for my 95' LT1 car. As we all know, they could be a lot better. Though originally, I have been looking into a lot of kits, but I have heard there are problems with the dust protection on many... there isnt any, or/and should not be used for a daily driver sort of thing. I have heard of a porsche "mov it" kit, as well as upgrading to the LS1 brakes and even to the ZO6 brakes.

Does anyone have some first hand number differences in comparison? I have seen a person on ebay selling all 4 Zo6 brake calipers($330), and I know someone on here makes the adapters to slap them onto an LT1, but is there a difference in the rear brakes?(worth it to buy all for at that price?) I know there's a difference in the front, and how much of a difference between the C5 vette(speaking, is there a difference between the regular c5 vettes and the z06?) and LS1 camaro? I've done some searching, and I basically find people's opinions and where to get perts, not actual numbers. I dont need huge freakin brakes, but more would be good. Like, for the cost to go to the LS1 brakes, which I'm guessing would do well with nice rotors and pads, it'd be the cheapest route. How much better would it be to get the z06's?

Personally, I like the idea of the z06's. For the $330 for all 4 calipers, they come all set and coated, but what else would I need? Aside from new rotors and pads, and larger then the stock 16" salad shooters...

Our C5--Fbody front brake upgrade is $825 shipped. Details can be found at www.nashvillespeed.com This comes with rotors, calipers, the adapter brackets, set of pads, and all the other supporting hardware and bolts, washers, etc.

There is no difference whatsoever between standard C5 brakes and Z06 brakes except the color of the caliper and the pads.

For anything but a full on road race effort, the standard LT1 rears are fine. The fronts typically do 70% of the work so that is what you want to upgrade first. The stock LS1 rears are actually slightly bigger in both rotor diameter and pad surface area than the C5 rears.

In terms of comparison, The LS1 rotors are 11.8 inches, the C5's are 12.8 and the LT1s are 10.8. The LS1 caliper, although similar in design to the C5 caliper, is gravity cast, which is weaker than the pressure cast C5 caliper.

The C5 setup requires 17" wheels.

I will agree ... this set-up is a very cost effective upgrade, especially if you are a '97 and earlier 4th gen.

I just got my setup this past weekend. Its built with LS1 calipers with C5 rotors and C5 pads and modified LT1 spindles. The LS1 calipers were only $50 ea, and the brackets weren't expensive, either. C5 rotors are $55 ea, and I paid $27 for the spindles on ebay. The pads cost $184, but that's racing...

C5 calipers are only $50 each too, and they are stronger due to the superior casting method

Its an easy upgrade if your LS1 calipers start to flex, which is what happened to Mitchntx.

Agreed, the LT1 brakes are totally inadequate even on the street, LOL.
