I did some Koni Yellow shocks/struts and Jamex 1.5" drop springs and those would be a great start. Actually going with a better brand spring would work better like Eibach. IROC Sway bars are awesome so upgrading isn't something that is a real issue until you get more **** about the setup.
Tires make such a huge difference. I tried a set of Yokohama AO32R's which are street legal and priced ok. They lasted less than 5000 miles and they are very loud when rolling on the road but man did they ever hook hard. Now I have some Kuhmo Victor Racer V700 tires on my IROC and they are just as sticky as the Yokohamas but they are really quiet on the street. If you have a daily driver these kinds of tires are overkill(ie: very dangerous in the rain). I drive mine on sunny days so it works out. Getting a set of spare rims and race tires is what a serious guy would do.
Subframes, LCAs, Panhard, it sounds like you're going to do fine with new springs/struts/shocks. Rebuilding the steering linkage is worthwhile also on a high mileage car. Goodluck!

Also replace any of the worn out bushings and get a performance related alignment; 6 degrees of caster, as much camber as you can get and 1/16 to 1/8 toe out is a good start. This'll make the car a little dartier on the street, but it'll increase turn in.
