anybody ever remove weld-in sfc's?

I'm considering (note considering) removing my KBDD SFC's so I can move down to ESP. What is the best way to do this without damaging the car? I'm thinking using a cutoff wheel to cut as close to the welds as I can then using an angle grinder with a sanding disk to get it smooth.

I've never driven an F-body w/o sfc's so I'm a little nervous about doing this.
