Question Z28 Side Moldings

The moldings on my Camaro are faded and really look bad. Since I have a red Camaro and these moldings are beat, even not aligned straight on the doors and fenders, Ive been thinking of removing them and painting them. I got a good suggestion regarding using fishing string to get them off BUT whats a good "glue" or adhesive to put them back on with? Whats a good paint to use for a re-spray? When I want to put them back on the car, will they just go back on or do I need to use a level or something to adhere them straight along the original lines?

Any type of repainting I done before in the past hasnt turned out too good - either the paint was poor quality, or something just didnt look right!

Any suggestions from you folks would be terrific as these things make my car look not too nice.

-Thanks Alot

I can't tell you the exact name of the 3m Adhesive Tape I used to re-apply my badges, but I will when I get home later tonight.

As for painting, when I did mine, I changed them from black to silver with black lines through it. (See sig. under Z28 pictures.)

As for the process, I took them off with fishing line, 2-3 primer coats, 2-3 silver coats, then about 3 black coats where I would rub the badge down with a thinner soaked rag to restore the main part of the badge to silver, but leave the grooves black. Once I had it to the desired look, I added about 3 clear coates.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

I took mine off also, as they were fading and starting to look pink..it was just a little too much for this girl

I think it looks much better without them..

That is what I am considering when I have my car painted (2-3 years) after I get all the mechanicals changed as I want them. I think without the side moldings & no 3-4" stripe down between the silver/black paint scheme it will look much cleaner.

Thanks very much for all the replies!

Only thing that worries me with removing the moldings COMPLETELY is those dorkies that see a beaut. red Z and feel that they MUST park their vehicle right next to it to make some sort of point or something - consequently making door dings and I really have a hard time when I see them on my doors. (Not like the moldings actually protect the doors anyways considering all doors are different sized these days)

Other then that everyones ideas sound great and seems like this task is going to be a fun one to work on.
