Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
Ok, tomorrow morning at 9 I am dropping my car off to have the windows tinted... but I'm scared to death now that I'm actually doing it! The problem is, I don't know what % to tint it. I definitely don't want to go too dark, but at the same time... too light will look bad, as well.
So this is for all of you who have tinted your windows.. what % is it, and how dark is it? How well can you see in it? How well can you see out of it at night?
Thanks!

Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
i say either 15% or 20. i dont know if south carolina is the same but 35 is the only legal limit here. Way too light if you ask me. 20% is good but not dark enough when the suns out.
Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
35% is about as low as most states will legally allow. I had 35% on the side windows with 20% on the hatch and opted to have the 35% replaced with the 20% because it just wasnt dark enough. Unfortuantely I also gave up the warrenty too because its not legal. I have driven cars with 5%(limo?) tint and in the daylight its badass but at night you cant backup w/o sticking your head out the window because it blocks out so much light.
Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
I have 35 % on the doors and 5% on the back. You should really check with your local laws. Here in Ohio the back can be as dark as you want but the dorrs have to be 50%. So i guess I'm breaking the law
Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
I have 20% on the sides and 5% on the back on the vert. The 20% is illegal in Texas. But it looks really good on the white car. It is boarder line to dark, at night.
Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
Yup I agree. 20% on the sides and 5% on the back. I havent tinted my camaro's windows yet, but thats what I did on my pickup and I love it!

Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
I have the 20% & 5% combo and don't regret it
, but it is not legal here in WNY.
I do have to say that backing up at night in the country can be a pain, and typically requires rolling down the DS window and using the Mirror to see; there just isn't enough light to use the back window through the tint.

Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
Thanks... I'll plan on doing the 20%/5% combination then. 20% is illegal here in SC.. but I'll take the risk

Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
I did 20% on sides and 35% on back. If its really dark out you cant see out the back, but any kind of light its enough to see out of. Wouldnt change a thing doing it again.

Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
I have 5% all around, as well as a few of my buddies. It's not exactly legal here in Cali, but then again, most mod's aren't either. It looks awsome on my white TA.
Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
the tint meter that the polite blankidy blank blank bleepin police officer had said that mine was "13%" but it looks awesome so i'm leaving it and i'll just have to bow up and pay that $145 ticket...commie bastards
Re: Window Tint: How dark is too dark?
That's a smart decision, paying the ticket, y'know.. 'cause then their entire police department has it on record that you refused to remove the tint even though they deemed it illegal, now you'll have EVERY cop pulling over ANY car like yours with tint.. Way to go.
Trust me, I know how annoying it is, I had 35% on the sides and limo on the back. I thought it looked great, you could still clearly see in with 35%, but it darkened it enough to make a difference. Some pig with a bad attitude pulled me over and gave me a ticket for it, even though there was a BWM next to me with limo all the way around. You know, cause apparently the pig decided that me driving with my 35% windows and my mom in the passenger seat (point being I wasn't hotrodding around with a girlfriend or my friends) is more of a threat than the BWM with limo tint all the way around. Worst part, I removed the tint and went to the local police department, went to the front desk and handed them the ticket, "You removed the tint, right?" and I said "Yeah.." and he signed it. Didn't even look at my car, my car was not in sight of the front door so its not like he could've glanced over my shoulder and checked, he signed it without even looking. I could've lied and said yes and gotten away with it...
Anyway, the point to my reply is just use common sense, don't go overboard with tint, and nothing sucks more than removing the tint that you paid for just because of some jerkoffs in office (especially removing the adhesive the tint leaves on your window after you peel the tint off, took me a good two hours of scrubbing, scraping, and using two bottles of goo be gone to get it all off).
